Job summary

New Zealand Couriers is seeking a Freight Hub Manager for our Christchurch operation to lead a 24/6 environment, drive performance and continuous improvement, and manage automation. This pivotal role focuses on safety, service quality and efficient freight movement across courier, road and air networks.

You will oversee teams, budgets and the Beumer LS4000 sorter, delivering on KPIs and fostering strong stakeholder collaboration. NZ working rights required, pre-employment checks apply.

Responsibilities

About the role

We are looking for a capable Freight Hub Manager to lead our Christchurch operation, ensuring freight moves safely, accurately and on time across our courier, road and air networks. This role combines operational leadership, people development, automation management and continuous improvement in a demanding 24/6 environment.

This is a pivotal operational leadership role, responsible for delivering service performance, developing capable teams, managing automated sortation equipment and driving continuous improvement.

What you'll be responsible for

• Leading and developing operational teams to achieve performance, safety and service goals
• Managing the timely receipt, sorting and despatch of express freight across courier fleets and road and air networks
• Optimising the performance, uptime and throughput of the Beumer LS4000 Crossbelt sorter and associated automation
• Monitoring operational KPIs including freight-sort completion, accuracy, misdirects, damage, security, labour efficiency and departure times
• Managing budgets, forecasting, cost performance and corrective action plans
• Building strong relationships with internal brands and other key stakeholders
• Driving continuous improvement, process control and business-continuity readiness
• Overseeing facilities, maintenance, contractor performance, security and site compliance
• Leading health, safety and wellbeing practices across the site

About you

You will be a practical, visible leader with strong experience in freight, logistics, transport or another complex, time-critical operational environment. You know how to set clear expectations, use data to drive decisions and build accountable teams.

To succeed, you will bring:

• Proven leadership experience in a high-volume logistics, freight, transport, manufacturing or similarly complex operational environment
• Experience leading, coaching and managing the performance of diverse teams
• Strong operational knowledge of road, air and/or express courier networks
• Experience with automated sortation equipment - ideally a Crossbelt sorter or comparable system
• The ability to analyse performance data, manage budgets and turn insights into practical improvement plans
• Excellent communication, stakeholder-management and problem-solving skills
• A strong commitment to health, safety, customer service and continuous improvement
