Trade Depot is seeking an experienced Field Service Technician to diagnose and repair a wide range of domestic appliances across New Zealand. Qualifications

As a Field Service Technician, you'll be the face of our service operation, providing expert diagnosis, repairs, technical advice, and warranty support across a wide range of domestic appliances.


You’ll work directly with customers, manufacturers, suppliers, and internal teams to deliver exceptional service experiences while helping Trade Depot build one of the best service operations in New Zealand.


What You’ll Be Doing


Diagnose & Repair with Confidence


You’ll be responsible for troubleshooting, servicing, and repairing a wide variety of domestic appliances, using your technical expertise to identify issues and implement effective solutions.


Key responsibilities include:



  • Diagnosing faults and carrying out quality repairs on domestic appliances.

  • Servicing, adjusting, testing, and maintaining equipment and components.

  • Interpreting wiring diagrams, schematics, manuals, and technical documentation.

  • Identifying root causes and recommending repair or replacement solutions.

  • Working with suppliers and manufacturers to resolve complex technical issues.

  • Salvaging and recovering parts where practical and economically viable.


You’ll be more than a technician. You’ll be a trusted technical advisor for our customers.


You’ll:



  • Provide professional, friendly service during every customer interaction.

  • Communicate repair requirements and technical information clearly.

  • Resolve service issues efficiently to minimise customer disruption.

  • Build customer confidence through expertise and professionalism.

  • Ensure customers receive a positive and seamless service experience.


Support a High-Performing Service Team


Working closely with our Service, Warranty, and Customer Service teams, you’ll help ensure jobs are completed efficiently and effectively.


This includes:



  • Providing troubleshooting support and technical guidance.

  • Assisting with technician training and knowledge sharing.

  • Collaborating on difficult technical cases.

  • Helping reduce service turnaround times through effective problem-solving.


Manage Parts & Inventory


Great service depends on having the right parts at the right time.


You’ll assist with:



  • Maintaining accurate spare parts inventories.

  • Processing returned goods, faulty products, and warranty components.

  • Ensuring commonly used parts remain available.

  • Performing stocktakes and inventory checks.

  • Keeping parts storage areas organised, safe, and accessible.

About You


You're someone who enjoys solving technical challenges, takes pride in quality workmanship, and genuinely enjoys helping customers.


You’ll bring:



  • Current EWRB registration and Electrical Appliance Serviceperson (EAS) practising licence

  • Demonstrated experience repairing and servicing domestic appliances

  • Strong fault-finding and diagnostic skills

  • Experience working with whiteware products and domestic appliances

  • A current full driver's licence

  • Strong communication and customer service skills

  • Excellent problem-solving abilities

  • Good organisational and administration skills

  • A practical, hands‑on approach and strong attention to detail

  • The ability to work independently while also contributing to a team environment

We’d love to hear from you if you also have:



  • 5+ years' experience as a Service Technician

  • Refrigerator servicing and repair experience

  • Experience with ovens, cooktops, rangehoods, dishwashers, washing machines, dryers, and other domestic appliances

  • Experience working within a warranty service environment
