Job summary

KiwiRail Freight is seeking Ferry Terminal Operators in Wellington on fixed-term contracts. The roles cover full-time (80 hours per fortnight) and part-time (60 hours per fortnight), with a rotating 24/7 roster including nights. You will support turning ferries around, secure lines, and assist with luggage and terminal cleanliness.

Ideal applicants have a clean Class 1 licence, a willingness to work weekends, and a health-and-safety mindset. Class 2 licence is a bonus but not required.

Qualifications

• A full, clean Class 1 driving licence is essential.
• A Class 2 driving licence is desirable but not essential.
• High level of physical fitness and health and safety focus.
• Ability to work a rotating 24/7 shift roster (including nights).

We have exciting opportunitiesto join our Wellington Terminal Team as Ferry Terminal Operators on a full-time (80 hours per fortnight) and part-time (60 hours/fortnight) basis. This is a busy and varied role where no two days are the same!

As a Ferry Terminal Operator, you will play a vital role in assisting with the operational and customer service aspects of turning our iconic ferries around, while ensuring the terminal and adjoining facilities are maintained to a high standard for our customers to enjoy. You will also be responsible for securing the ships lines, luggage handling and cleaning and ensure the maintenance of terminal facilities. You will also need to have:

• A full, clean Class 1 driving licence is essential
• A Class 2 driving livence - this is desirable, however not essential
• high level of physical fitness, team spirit and be health and safety focused
• The ability to work a rotating 24/7 shift roster (including nights)
• An ability to think on your feet and apply knowledge in a practical environment

Having a P licence would be advantageous .

This position involves shift work and a requirement to work Monday to Sunday on a rotating rostered basis (planned two weeks in advance); you will work either the morning shift (04.00 - 16.00) or the evening shift (16.00 - 04.00) so you must also have a reliable way to get to and from the terminal safely as public transport may not be available at these times.
