Job summary

Hamilton City Council is seeking an experienced Facilities Manager to help keep a diverse portfolio of facilities safe, efficient and well‑maintained. You’ll work with the Facilities Technical Manager on technical advice, condition assessments, and hands-on support across council buildings.

In this role you’ll coordinate repairs with contractors, ensure compliance with standards, and support long‑term asset performance.

Qualifications

  • Experience in strategic, planned or technical facilities management.
  • Strong understanding of building infrastructure and compliance requirements.
  • Experience with contractors and service providers to define technical requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical advice and hands-on support across buildings and facilities.
  • Support condition assessments and facilities work programmes.
  • Troubleshoot faults and coordinate repairs with contractors.
  • Work with internal teams to ensure high-quality workmanship and compliance.
  • Contribute ideas to improve reliability, performance and asset outcomes.

Help keep Hamilton City Council’s facilities running at their best. Working alongside our Facilities Technical Manager, you’ll provide technical advice and hands‑on support across a diverse portfolio of buildings and facilities. From identifying issues and finding practical solutions to helping improve the performance of building systems, you’ll play an important role in creating safe, efficient, and well‑maintained environments for our teams and community.

In this varied role, you’ll support condition assessments and other facilities related work programmes, troubleshoot faults and coordinate repairs, and work closely with contractors and internal teams to ensure work is completed to a high standard. You’ll also help ensure our facilities meet relevant standards and compliance requirements while contributing ideas that improve reliability, performance, and long‑term asset outcomes.

Qualifications and experience:
  • Trade or tertiary qualification in building construction, facilities or asset management, programme or project management or electrical/mechanical engineering or other related qualification.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in strategic, planned or technical facilities management.
  • Strong understanding of building infrastructure and compliance requirements.
  • Experience working with contractors and service providers in to establish technical requirements needed for buildings to function.
  • Proficiency in asset management systems, excel spreadsheets and or technical documentation.
  • Experience in local government or public sector environments preferred but not essential.
Qualities and attributes:
  • Familiarity with sustainability and energy efficiency in technical operations preferred.
  • Ability to work with external providers to interpret technical drawings and specifications.
  • Commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi and understanding of Te Ao Maaori principles in service delivery.

Circa $97k dependent on skills and experience.
