Job summary

Hamilton City Council is seeking a relationship-focused Project Manager to lead a diverse portfolio of capital infrastructure projects within the Design and Delivery team. You will guide projects from planning through procurement, delivery, commissioning and handover, ensuring safety, on-time delivery, budget adherence, and quality that meets council and community expectations.

  • Relevant postgraduate or tertiary qualification in a discipline related to infrastructure, building, or project management.
  • Formal project management certification such as PMP or PRINCE2 is desirable.
  • Proven experience delivering large-scale infrastructure, building, or construction projects.
  • Strong commercial acumen and contract management experience.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • A proactive, solutions-focused leader who can influence without direct authority.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the delivery of complex capital projects across the full lifecycle.
  • Manage consultants, contractors and suppliers to achieve objectives.
  • Develop strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Provide robust project controls, reporting and governance support.
  • Identify and manage commercial, operational and delivery risks.

Are you a relationship-focused Project Manager who thrives on delivering complex infrastructure projects through strong stakeholder engagement, disciplined project management, and collaborative leadership?

We're looking for an experienced Project Manager to join our Design and Delivery team and lead the successful delivery of a diverse portfolio of capital projects that help shape Hamilton's future.

This role would suit someone who brings either:
  • Strong Heating Venting and Cooling (HVAC), mechanical services, or building systems expertise, or
  • Extensive vertical infrastructure/building construction project management experience

and who enjoys working across technical experts, consultants, contractors, governance groups, and community stakeholders to deliver outstanding outcomes.

About the Role:

As Project Manager, you'll lead projects from planning and design through to procurement, delivery, commissioning, and handover. You'll be responsible for ensuring projects are delivered safely, on time, within budget, and to the quality standards expected by Council and our community.

Success in this role isn't just about project delivery—it’s about building trusted relationships, creating alignment across diverse stakeholders, and providing the structure and governance needed to successfully navigate complex projects.

Qualifications

  • A tertiary qualification in a relevant discipline and/or formal project management certification (PMP, PRINCE2 or similar)
  • Significant experience delivering infrastructure, building, or construction projects
  • Strong commercial acumen and contract management experience
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills
  • A proactive, solutions-focused approach and the ability to lead through influence
  • Most importantly, you'll be someone who combines technical credibility with genuine relationship-building capability and a structured, outcomes-focused approach to project delivery.
Additional Information

Circa $117k dependent on skills and experience.
