Job summary

Hamilton City Council is seeking a Portfolio Office Data, Systems and Reporting Team Lead in Hamilton. You will lead a high‑performing team that turns complex portfolio, programme and financial data into timely insights to support the capital programme.

Qualifications

  • Tertiary degree in Management, business, software engineering or accounting.
  • 5+ years' experience in a leadership role.
  • 5+ years’ experience in product ownership for project or programme (PPM) management toolsets.
  • Experience in system stewardship: configuration, workflow design, enhancements, integrations, user support and training.
  • Strong analytical capability with large, multi-year datasets.
  • Understanding of data architecture, modelling and data governance.
  • Experience with data validation, reconciliation and variance analysis.
  • Advanced Excel/Power BI data analysis capability.
  • Clear communication, strong interpersonal skills and energy to achieve outcomes.
  • Local government experience preferred.
  • Quality management experience.

As the Portfolio Office Data, Systems and Reporting Team Lead, you'll lead and develop a high-performing team responsible for transforming complex portfolio, programme and financial data into meaningful insights that support the development and delivery of Hamilton City Council's capital programme. This is a hands‑on leadership role where you'll provide coaching, direction and support to a team of specialists, ensuring the right capability, performance and culture are in place to deliver high-quality outcomes. Your team's work will provide leaders and governance groups with accurate, timely and actionable information to make confident, evidence‑based decisions.

Reporting to the Head of Portfolio Office, you'll lead the management of capital financial and P3M data, ensuring its integrity, quality and effective use through Psoda. You'll drive the development of portfolio analytics, reporting and data visualisations that provide transparency of performance, support Long Term Plan investment decisions, and strengthen portfolio governance and controls. You'll also play a key role in setting priorities, removing barriers, and creating an environment where your team can thrive and deliver value to the organisation.

Qualifications

  • Tertiary degree in Management, business, software engineering or accounting.
  • 5+ years' experience in a leadership role
  • 5+ years’ experience in product ownership for project or programme (PPM) management toolsets.
  • Demonstrated experience in system stewardship, including configuration, workflow design, enhancements, integrations, and user support and training.
  • Strong analytical capability, including managing, processing, and analysing large and complex datasets (including multi‑year financial datasets)
  • Understanding of data architecture, modelling and data governance principles. Data Systems and Reporting Lead
  • Experience of performing data validation reconciliation and variance analysis.
  • Advanced Excel/Power BI/data analysis capability.
  • Demonstrates clear and confident communication, strong interpersonal capability, and a high level of energy and drive to achieve outcomes
