Job summary

Tradestaff New Zealand is seeking an experienced Heavy Fabrication Welder / Fabricator for our Hamilton workshop. You’ll work on heavy steel projects, reading drawings, and producing high-quality fabrication work in a busy environment.

Ideal candidates have solid heavy fabrication experience, strong MIG or FCAW welding ability, and reliable, safety-conscious work habits. Pre-employment drug testing and own transport are preferred; consistent hours and weekly pay are offered.

Qualifications

• Solid heavy fabrication experience.
• Strong MIG and/or FCAW welding ability.
• Confident reading fabrication drawings.
• Good practical fitting and measuring skills.

Responsibilities

• Weld using MIG and flux-core processes on heavy steel projects.
• Fabricate and assemble structural steel components from drawings.
• Cut, grind, drill and prepare steel surfaces for fabrication.
• Measure, mark out and fit components to specification.
• Read and interpret engineering drawings to ensure accuracy.
• Operate workshop machinery and equipment safely and efficiently.
• Maintain high safety and quality standards in all tasks.

Heavy Fabrication Welder / Fabricator – Hamilton

We’re looking for an experienced Welder/Fabricator to join a busy engineering workshop in Hamilton.

You’ll be working on a range of heavy steel projects, so we need someone who is confident on the tools, can work from drawings, and produces quality work.

The Role

• MIG and flux-core welding
• Structural and heavy steel fabrication
• Cutting, grinding, drilling and steel preparation
• Measuring, marking out and fitting components
• Reading and interpreting engineering drawings
• Operating workshop machinery and equipment
• Maintaining high safety and quality standards

What We’re Looking For

• Solid heavy fabrication experience
• Strong MIG and/or FCAW welding ability
• Confident reading fabrication drawings
• Good practical fitting and measuring skills
• Welding tickets advantageous
• Reliable, physically fit and safety-conscious
• Own transport preferred
• Able to pass pre-employment drug and alcohol testing
