Bank of New Zealand is seeking an Engineering Platform Manager - Cloud to lead BNZ’s cloud hosting and container platforms, enabling engineers to build, deploy and operate services securely at scale.
You will own the cloud strategy, including landing zones, identity and networking, while maturing containerisation and governance across teams. The role emphasises resilience, security and cost efficiency with cross-functional collaboration.

We’re looking for an Engineering Platform Manager - Cloud Hosting to lead BNZ’s cloud hosting and container platforms, enabling engineers across the bank to build, deploy and operate services securely at scale.

Own and evolve AWS/Azure foundations (landing zones, identity, networking, guardrails) and the cloud hosting roadmap.
Own and evolve containerisation across cloud and on premise.
Lead incident, problem and change management for cloud hosting platforms, meeting ITIL measures, CHFand SLAs.
Partner with Architecture, Security and Risk to ensure platforms are coherent,secureand compliant.
Drive adoption and improve developer experience through self-service,standardsand automation (including governed AI tooling).
Manage vendor relationships,budgetsand cost optimisation for cloud hosting services.
Evolving BNZ’s cloud landing zones and guardrails, strengthening identity and network integration, maturing container/hosting technologies, and improving resilience, observability, securitypostureand cost efficiency.You’llalso help shape governed AI productivity and automation tooling soit’ssecure,scalableand genuinely useful for engineers.
You’llhave real platform ownership—setting strategy and delivering outcomes on foundations that power BNZ Technology at scale. The work is visible and measurable, andyou’llinfluence how engineers across the bank build, deploy and run services in the cloud.
Balancing speed, resilience,securityand cost in a regulated environment—while aligning multiple stakeholders and driving operational maturity.You’llneed to makepragmatic trade-offs, lead through ambiguity, and keep service reliability front and centre.
Success looks like a cloud hosting platform that is measurably more resilient,secureand cost-efficient, with clear service measures and continual improvement. Engineering teams can reliably self-serve what they need, incidents and operational risk are reduced, andyou’vebuilt a high-performing team with strong engagement and accountability.
A strong senseof ownership and accountability, comfort leading through ambiguity, and the ability to influence across multiple teams.You’llbe pragmatic, data-informed, and calm under pressure, with a continuous-improvement mindset and a genuine focus on enabling other engineers to move faster safely.
We are looking for significant experience in enterprise cloud platforms in AWS and/or Azure environments, including ownership of cloud strategy, landing zones, identity, networking, infrastructure standards and platform governance.
You’ll have experience operating cloud services at scale, driving platform modernisation, containerisation strategies and engineering excellence across multiple teams. Experience balancing platform reliability, security, operational risk, cost optimisation and developer experience within complex environments will be highly regarded.
