Bank of New Zealand (BNZ) is seeking a Platform Architect (Principal Engineer) to provide architecture and technical leadership across our Salesforce and nCino platform. This permanent, full-time role is based in Auckland or Wellington with a hybrid working model.

You will guide technical strategy, mentor engineers, set engineering standards, and align solutions with business goals while delivering secure, scalable banking experiences for thousands of colleagues and customers.

We have an opportunity for a Platform Architect (known in BNZ as a Principal Engineer) to join our team and provide architecture and technical leadership across our Salesforce and nCino platform.

This role offers the opportunity to operate as a leader within Customer360, helping guide technical solutions for one of BNZ’s most significant technology investments. Byaligning with business goals and the platform’s best practice capabilities, you’ll help shape the architecture that enables us to deliver solutions that are secure, scalable, resilient, and fit for purpose as we continue our transformation journey.

This is a permanent, full-time opportunity based in Wellington or Auckland, with a hybrid working model and reporting to the Platform Manager.

What are five day-to-day tasks the person in this role will complete?
  • Strategic Technical Leadership - Provide technical leadership across our teams and value streams. You’ll guide the architecture, lead the platform design and help to ensure that our engineering standards are embedded for the future.
  • Stakeholder Influence & Delivery Enablement - Collaborate with business, technology and vendor stakeholders to align technical decisions with programme objectives to support successful delivery.
  • Complex Problem Solving - Lead the resolution of complex technical, operational, and platform challenges by applying systems thinking and influencing solutions across organisational boundaries.
  • Engineering & Quality Excellence - Set the standard for solutions that incorporate engineering best practices, platform reliability, security, observability and quality.
  • Technical Coaching & Mentoring - Mentor Engineering Leads, Senior Engineers, and emerging technical leaders, helping uplift capability and foster a culture of technical excellence.

  • Strategic Technical Leadership - Proven experience leading the technical direction across teams and platforms with the ability to influence architecture and engineering practices, feeding into technology strategy at scale.
  • Systems & Platform Design - Strong understanding of the Salesforce and nCino platform architecture and best practice designs including resilience, scalability, security and operational reliability.
  • Influence & Stakeholder Engagement - Exceptional communication skills with the ability to influence and collaborate with engineering leads, enterprise architects, delivery teams and business stakeholders alongside vendor expertise.
  • Mentorship & Capability Building - A track record of mentoring technical leaders and engineers, uplifting capability, and fostering a culture of learning and continuous improvement.
  • Engineering Excellence - Demonstrated expertise in software engineering practices, quality engineering, DevSecOps, observability, testing strategies, reliability engineering, and continuous delivery.
