Job summary

Air New Zealand Limited is seeking a Senior Software Engineer with strong DevOps experience to join our DevOps Chapter. You will design scalable cloud infrastructure and platform services, lead CI/CD development, and champion automation across a multi-cloud environment (AWS and Azure).

You will collaborate with software engineers, SREs, and security to deliver secure, observable platforms. A passion for mentoring and shaping platform strategy is essential.

Qualifications

• 5+ years in software or platform engineering, with microservices and cloud-native development.
• Experience in DevOps, platform engineering, or cloud infrastructure.
• CI/CD principles, DevSecOps, and infrastructure as code (Terraform, CloudFormation).
• Hands-on with Azure DevOps toolsets and container orchestration (Kubernetes, ECS).
• Fluency with modern languages (Python, Java, Go, Bash).
• Knowledge of monitoring/observability tools (Prometheus, Grafana).
• AWS or Azure certification preferred.

The Role You’ll Play

As a senior engineer, you will:

• Design and implementscalable cloud infrastructureandplatform servicesthat empower product teams to build, deploy, and operate with speed and confidence.
• Lead CI/CD platform development, owning the build, test, and deployment systems that underpin dozens of applications.
• Championautomation and Infrastructure as Code, driving reliability, consistency, and operational excellence.
• Collaborate closely with software engineers, SREs, and security specialists to deliversecure, observable, and resilient platforms.
• Mentor and support engineersgrowing their DevOps and platform capabilities — fostering a culture of learning and innovation.
• Contribute to and influenceplatform strategy, tooling decisions, and technical directionacross the organisation.
• Support key platforms such asKubernetes (EKS),ECS,API Gateway, andKafka, helping ensure their scalability, reliability, and performance.

What You’ll Bring

• 5+ years’ experience in software or platform engineering, ideally with exposure tomicroservices architectureandcloud-native development.
• A strong interest inDevOps, Platform Engineering, or Cloud Infrastructure, and a desire to deepen your expertise in this space.
• Proven skills in CI/CD principles, DevSecOps practices, and infrastructure as code (Terraform, CloudFormation).
• Hands-on experience withAzure DevOpstoolsets (Pipelines, Repos) and container orchestration (Kubernetes, ECS).
• Hands-on experience with modern programming or scripting languages (Python, Java, Go, Bash, etc.)
• Familiarity with monitoring and observability tools (Prometheus, Grafana, etc.).
• AWS or Azure certification (preferred).
• A collaborative and curious mindset — you thrive on solving complex problems and helping others succeed.
• A solid understanding of cloud architecture, security, and automation best practices.
