Job summary

Auror is seeking an Engineering Lead (Subject Recognition / On Prem) in Auckland to lead the Subject Recognition On-Prem team and own the edge-device platform, detection pipeline, and vendor model integration. You will drive architectural direction, ensure high performance, and champion privacy-conscious engineering practices.

You will guide sprint rituals, establish estate health, and manage model upgrade processes, balancing accuracy with operational reliability while scaling across sites.

Qualifications

• Strong proficiency in C# and .NET Core.
• Experience with on-premise deployments and edge devices.
• Leadership of engineering teams.
• Excellent communication with stakeholders.
• Experience with AI/LLMs a plus.

Responsibilities

• Lead Engineering the Subject Recognition On-Prem team.
• Lead engineering for Auror's on-prem face recognition platform — the edge devices, detection pipeline and vendor model integration.
• Run structured sprint rituals, including stand-ups, retrospectives and planning.
• Define and Own Estate Health: establish a healthy deployment definition per camera/server/site.
• Make estate health measurable and actionable.
• Make Model Upgrades an Organisational Capability: go/no-go on model generations.
• Broker operating-point decisions on false positives/negatives with Product and Trust & Safety.
• Strengthen observability, incident response and escalation across edge and cloud.
• Drive reduction in toil and shift to building capability.
• Set engineering standards and ensure quality across systems affecting trust.
• Guide architectural decisions for scalable risk-detection platforms.
• Grow the team through coaching and mentoring.
• Eliminate single points of failure via pairing and documentation.
• Champion privacy-conscious engineering practices.
• Lead agentic engineering processes with governed AI practices.
• Role reports to Jakob Sorensen, Director of Engineering.
