Job summary

Auror in New Zealand is seeking a Data Engineering Lead to scale data foundations, lead the data engineering team, and empower product, analytics, and AI capabilities across the organisation.

You will stay close to the code, raise technical standards, and mentor engineers while partnering with Data & AI, Product, Engineering and Platform teams to turn complex data challenges into real-world impact.

Qualifications

• Significant experience building and operating modern cloud data platforms.
• Hands-on experience with Snowflake, Dagster, DBT, Iceberg, Spanner, BigQuery.
• CI/CD, automation, containerisation, Kubernetes, and Terraform IaC practices.
• Experience leading technical delivery and coaching engineers to improve standards.
• Strong communication and ability to influence stakeholders across technical and non-technical teams.
• Ability to contribute to data engineering strategy and keep an eye on tooling and trends.

Responsibilities

• Lead design and delivery of scalable, observable data platforms, pipelines, and analytics models.
• Partner with software engineering to design data models and integration patterns for product capabilities.
• Own data infrastructure across Azure, GCP, Snowflake, and Terraform, ensuring security and governance.
• Drive improvements in data quality, reliability, and observability; reduce toil.
• Review high-risk designs and production changes for observability and rollback readiness.
• Manage metadata, logging, retention policies, and access governance.
• Build and mentor a high-performing data engineering team, providing feedback and growth plans.
• Foster a collaborative culture and transparent decision-making across teams.
• Translate product goals into practical technical plans with clear milestones.
• Connect day-to-day work to Auror's mission of reducing crime and improving safety.
