Kāpiti Youth Support is seeking an Employment Broker (0.75 FTE) to join the Te Ara Whakamana team on the Kāpiti Coast. You will build and leverage relationships with employers, schools, and training providers to place rangatahi into meaningful work and training opportunities.

Kāpiti Youth Support (KYS) is a Youth One Stop Shop and registered charity that's been supporting rangatahi on the Kāpiti Coast for more than 25 years. We provide free integrated primary health, mental health, social support and education services to young people aged 10–24, and we're now one of the largest NGOs in the district – working with over 5,400 rangatahi across five sites.

About the role:
KYS recent success in securing a He Poutama contract provides an exciting opportunity for an Employment Broker to join our Te Ara Whakamana team on the Kāpiti Coast. This role is 0.75 FTE.
As our Employment Broker, you'll be the bridge between rangatahi and the world of work. You'll build a strong network of employers, industry bodies, schools and training providers, then match young people to opportunities that genuinely fit their strengths, goals and circumstances. Working alongside our Youth Coaches, you'll help rangatahi step into sustainable employment, education and training – and stay there. It's relationship-driven mahi with real, measurable impact on young lives.
Your responsibilities include:
Building trusted, reciprocal relationships with local employers, industry groups, schools, tertiary and vocational providers, and government employment services.
Promoting inclusive, youth-friendly workplaces and supporting employers with onboarding, supervision and reasonable accommodations.
Sourcing and developing opportunities – workplace visits, career tasters, work experience, apprenticeships, vacancies and recognised training pathways.
Staying across labour-market trends, skill shortages and emerging opportunities across Kāpiti, Horowhenua and wider Wellington.
Matching rangatahi to the right opportunities by reviewing Individual Development Plans with Youth Coaches and assessing fit, accessibility and support needs.
Preparing young people and employers for placement – introductions, visits, interviews, applications and clear expectations on both sides.
Supporting retention through the 26-week post-placement period, identifying issues early and coordinating practical support.
§Maintaining an accurate opportunity pipeline and recording contacts, outcomes and sustainability data in our systems (levo® and Medtech Evolution).
As a successful candidate, you will have:
A relevant qualification in employment services, recruitment, business, career development, youth work or a related field – or equivalent demonstrated experience.
Proven experience in employer engagement, recruitment, job brokerage, business development or education and training pathways.
Strong local networks, or demonstrated ability to build productive relationships across employers, industry and community services.
An understanding of the the needs of rangitahi who face complex barriers, and the ability to engage in a respectful, strengths-based and culturally responsive way.
Sound knowledge of employment agreements, workplace minimum standards, privacy, safeguarding and health and safety.
Strong negotiation, influencing, presentation and relationship-management skills.
Excellent organisation, follow-through and reporting capability.
An understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi, and equitable service delivery, and the ability to practise from a bi-cultural and multi-cultural perspective.
A full, clean New Zealand driver's licence.
