Electronic Engineering Technician

Hours: 40 hours per week (Minimum 30 hours guaranteed)

We’re looking for a reliable Industrial Measurement and Control Technician to be fully responsible for the installation, testing, modification, maintenance and repair of the electronic instruments and control systems associated with the company’s production machinery.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

• Install, inspect, test, modify, maintain and repair electronic instruments, control systems and related components used in fabrication and production machinery in the factory.
• Diagnose faults in industrial machinery and control systems by examining, testing and analysing electronic, mechanical, hydraulic and pneumatic components and systems.
• Test and troubleshoot electronic controllers, sensors, switches, relays, control panels, drives, motors and other instrumentation associated with automated and semi-automated production equipment.
• Identify defective or malfunctioning components and carry out appropriate repair, adjustment, calibration or replacement to restore equipment to normal operating condition.
• Maintain and troubleshoot PLC-controlled, CNC-controlled and other automated production machinery used for cutting, drilling, machining, assembly and fabrication of aluminium components.
• Inspect and test machinery control circuits and instrumentation using appropriate electronic and electrical testing equipment to identify faults and verify system performance.
• Adjust, calibrate and configure electronic instruments, sensors, controllers and control devices to ensure accurate and reliable operation of production machinery.
• Investigate recurring machinery and control-system faults, identify their causes and recommend or implement appropriate technical modifications to improve equipment reliability and production efficiency.
• Perform scheduled preventive maintenance on production machinery, electronic control systems and associated instrumentation to reduce equipment failures and production downtime.
• Maintain records of machinery faults, testing, repairs, component replacement, calibration and preventive maintenance activities.
• Assist with the installation, relocation and recommissioning of production machinery, including checking equipment control requirements, control connections, sensors and associated electronic systems.
• Test and commission machinery following installation, relocation, repair or modification to ensure that control systems and equipment are operating correctly and safely.
• Liaise with machinery manufacturers, equipment suppliers and specialist service providers regarding technical faults, replacement components, software or control-system issues, equipment upgrades and maintenance requirements.
• Read and interpret machinery manuals, electronic diagrams, control-system documentation, circuit diagrams and technical specifications for fault diagnosis, maintenance and equipment modification.
• Maintain appropriate stocks of critical electronic, instrumentation and control-system components and identify replacement parts required for ongoing machinery maintenance.
• Provide technical advice to production staff regarding the correct operation of machinery and assist in identifying operating practices that may contribute to equipment faults or excessive wear.
• Support machinery and control-system improvement projects aimed at increasing production reliability, equipment performance, workplace safety and manufacturing efficiency.

Qualification and Technical Background

The position is suited to a person with tertiary study or relevant work experience in areas such as:

• Electronic Engineering, Electronic Information Technology, Industrial Electronics, Automation and Control, Instrumentation, Mechatronics, or a closely related field.
