Job summary

WasteCo in Christchurch is seeking a qualified Diesel Mechanic to join our Canterbury Operations team. You will service, maintain, diagnose and repair our fleet and equipment across a range of vehicles from Class 1 to Class 5 trucks, ensuring safety, reliability and operational readiness.

Reporting to the workshop Manager, you will perform diagnostics, repairs, pre-COF inspections and light fabrication tasks, while documenting job sheets and maintenance records.

Qualifications

  • National Certificate in Automotive Heavy Engineering (Level 4 or 5).
  • Minimum 2 years' experience in a Diesel Mechanic role.
  • Current Class 4 Driver's licence (essential); Class 5 licence advantageous.
  • Strong diagnostic and problem-solving skills.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Excellent communication and time-management abilities.
  • Waste industry experience is advantageous but not essential.

Are you a qualified Diesel Mechanic looking for a varied, hands-on role with a growing New Zealand business?

WasteCo is seeking an experienced Diesel Mechanic to join our Canterbury Operations team. This is an excellent opportunity to work on a diverse fleet of vehicles and equipment while contributing to a safety-first culture.

About the Role

Reporting to the workshop Manager, you will be responsible for servicing, maintaining, diagnosing, and repairing WasteCo's fleet and equipment to ensure they remain safe, reliable, and operational. You'll work across a range of vehicles, from Class 1 through to Class 5 trucks, as well as other machinery and equipment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Diagnose and repair mechanical faults.

What You'll Bring
