Job summary

Tradestaff is seeking an experienced Diesel Mechanic to join busy teams across Waikato. You’ll service, repair, and maintain diesel-powered vehicles and equipment across a range of industries, with work spread across Waikato and occasional sites in Hawke’s Bay, Wellington, Bay of Plenty and Auckland.

Ideal candidates have 3+ years’ experience or NZQF Level 4 qualification, own tools, reliable transport and a strong health and safety focus.

Qualifications

• 3+ years' relevant work experience or NZQF Level 4 qualification.
• Own tools and reliable transport.
• Class 1 driver’s licence preferred.
• Strong focus on health and safety.
• Ability to pass a pre-employment drug test.
• Two recent work references.

Responsibilities

• Diagnosing mechanical and electrical faults.
• Dismantling, repairing, and reassembling engines and components.
• Replacing worn or defective parts.
• Performing scheduled servicing (oil changes, tune-ups, lubrication).
• Using diagnostic tools and computer systems.
• Testing and adjusting components for peak performance.
• Responding to breakdowns and callouts.
• Inspecting vehicles and advising on roadworthiness.

Diesel Mechanic

We’re looking for experienced Diesel Mechanics to join busy teams across Waikato.

Waikato will be the predominate area of work for this role; however, you may also be required to work in Hawkes Bay, Wellington, Bay of Plenty and Auckalnd regions. This will be discussed further with the successful applicant.

You’ll be working with a variety of diesel vehicles and machinery in a hands-on role that offers both variety and challenge. If you’ve got the skills and the right attitude, we want to hear from you.

About the role:

You’ll be servicing, repairing, and maintaining diesel-powered vehicles and equipment across a range of industries. Key tasks may include:

• Diagnosing mechanical and electrical faults
• Dismantling, repairing, and reassembling engines and components
• Replacing worn or defective parts
• Performing scheduled servicing (oil changes, tune-ups, lubrication)
• Using diagnostic tools and computer systems
• Testing and adjusting components for peak performance
• Responding to breakdowns and callouts
• Inspecting vehicles and advising on roadworthiness

Requirements:

• A minimum of 3 years' relevant work experience, or
• A relevant NZQF Level 4 qualification (or an overseas qualification recognised by NZQA as comparable).
• Own tools and reliable transport
• Class 1 driver’s licence preferred
• Strong focus on health and safety
• Ability to pass a pre-employment drug test
• Two recent work references

Benefits:

• Pay range: $30–$40/hr, based on experience
• Minimum 30 hours/week guaranteed
• Weekly pay + all PPE provided
