Job summary

Tradestaff is seeking experienced Diesel Mechanics to join busy teams across the Bay of Plenty, with potential work in Hawke’s Bay, Wellington, Auckland and Waikato.

You’ll service, repair and maintain diesel vehicles and equipment. Key tasks include diagnosing faults, replacing parts, servicing, using diagnostic tools and ensuring roadworthiness.

Qualifications

• Minimum 3 years’ relevant work experience.
• NZQA-recognised Level 4 qualification or equivalent required.
• Own tools and reliable transport; class 1 driver’s licence preferred.
• Able to pass a pre-employment drug screen.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose mechanical and electrical faults.
• Repair and rebuild engines and components.
• Perform scheduled servicing (oil changes, tune-ups).
• Respond to breakdowns and callouts.

Diesel Mechanic

We're looking for experienced Diesel Mechanics to join busy teams across Bay of Plenty.

Bay of Plenty will be the predominant area of work for this role; however, you may also be required to work in Hawkes Bay, Wellington, Auckland and Waikato regions. This will be discussed further with the successful applicant.

You'll be working with a variety of diesel vehicles and machinery in a hands-on role that offers both variety and challenge. If you've got the skills and the right attitude, we want to hear from you.

About the role:

You'll be servicing, repairing, and maintaining diesel-powered vehicles and equipment across a range of industries. Key tasks may include:

• Diagnosing mechanical and electrical faults
• Dismantling, repairing, and reassembling engines and components
• Replacing worn or defective parts
• Performing scheduled servicing (oil changes, tune-ups, lubrication)
• Using diagnostic tools and computer systems
• Testing and adjusting components for peak performance
• Responding to breakdowns and callouts
• Inspecting vehicles and advising on roadworthiness

Requirements:

• A minimum of 3 years' relevant work experience, or
• A relevant NZQF Level 4 qualification (or an overseas qualification recognised by NZQA as comparable).
• Own tools and reliable transport
• Class 1 driver's licence preferred
• Strong focus on health and safety
• Ability to pass a pre-employment drug test
• Two recent work references

Benefits:

• Pay range: $30-$40/hr, based on experience
