Job summary

Tradestaff Wellington is seeking experienced Diesel Mechanics to join busy teams across Wellington. You’ll service, repair and maintain diesel-powered vehicles and equipment across a range of industries.

Predominant work in Wellington with potential assignments in Hawke’s Bay, Auckland, Bay of Plenty and Waikato; you will work hands-on, face challenges, and be supported by a recruiter who values skilled tradespeople.

Qualifications

• Minimum 3 years of relevant work experience or NZQF Level 4 qualification.
• Own tools and reliable transport; Class 1 driver’s licence preferred.
• Ability to pass a pre-employment drug test and provide two references.

Responsibilities

• Diagnosing mechanical and electrical faults.
• Dismantling, repairing, and reassembling engines and components.
• Replacing worn or defective parts.
• Performing scheduled servicing (oil changes, tune-ups, lubrication).
• Using diagnostic tools and computer systems.
• Testing and adjusting components for peak performance.
• Responding to breakdowns and callouts.
• Inspecting vehicles and advising on roadworthiness.

Diesel Mechanic

We’re looking for experienced Diesel Mechanics to join busy teams across Wellington.

Wellington will be the predominate area of work for this role; however, you may also be required to work in Hawkes Bay, Auckland, Bay of Plenty and Waikato regions. This will be discussed further with the successful applicant.

You’ll be working with a variety of diesel vehicles and machinery in a hands‑on role that offers both variety and challenge. If you’ve got the skills and the right attitude, we want to hear from you.

• Diagnosing mechanical and electrical faults

• Using diagnostic tools and computer systems
• Testing and adjusting components for peak performance

Requirements:

• A minimum of 3 years' relevant work experience, or
• A relevant NZQF Level 4 qualification (or an overseas qualification recognised by NZQA as comparable).
• Own tools and reliable transport
• Class 1 driver’s licence preferred
• Strong focus on health and safety
• Ability to pass a pre‑employment drug test
• Two recent work references
