Job summary

WM New Zealand in Christchurch is seeking skilled Diesel Mechanics to join our fleet maintenance team. You will carry out breakdowns, diagnostics and repairs on a wide range of mechanical and electrical faults to keep more than 100 trucks on the road.

This permanent full-time role offers a competitive hourly rate of $40–$45, with standard hours and opportunities to work with advanced CMMS and hydraulic systems knowledge.

Qualifications

• Heavy Diesel Trade Certificate required with preventive maintenance, diagnostics and truck repair experience.
• Knowledge of hydraulic systems diagnostics and maintenance, and/or automotive electrical/electronic fault diagnosis preferred.
• Experience using CMMS systems preferred.
• Class 4 Driver’s Licence advantageous but not essential.

Responsibilities

• Maintain vehicles to roadworthy standards and ensure regulatory compliance.
• Carry out servicing per preventative maintenance schedules.
• Plan vehicle maintenance with Operations Supervisors.
• Conduct thorough technical inspections of vehicles.
• Keep accurate maintenance and repair records in job sheets and Vehicle History File.

Job Description

We’re looking for skilled Diesel Mechanics to join our Christchurch team. In this role, you’ll play a vital part in keeping our fleet of over 100 trucks running safely and efficiently. Your work will directly support our essential services and ensure our vehicles remain reliable on the road. You will be tasked with carrying out breakdowns, diagnostics and repairs on a large variety of faults, both mechanical and electrical.

Key Responsibilities

• Maintain all vehicles to a roadworthy standard and ensure compliance with regulations
• Carry out vehicle and unit servicing in line with preventative maintenance schedules
• Work with Operations Supervisors to plan vehicle maintenance
• Complete thorough technical inspections of vehicles
• Keep accurate records of maintenance and repairs in job sheets and the in-cab Vehicle History File
• Manage workflow through the Computerised Maintenance Management System (CMMS)
• Requisition parts and consumables as required
• Carry out daily checks of workshop tools and equipment to ensure they are serviceable and accounted for

Qualifications

We’re looking for someone with:

• A Heavy Diesel Trade Certificate and proven experience in preventive maintenance, diagnostics, and truck repairs
• Knowledge of hydraulic systems diagnostics and maintenance, and/or automotive electrical/electronic fault diagnosis (preferred)
• Experience using CMMS systems (preferred)
• A Class 4 Driver’s Licence (advantageous but not essential)

• Competitive hourly rate of $40 -$45 an hour depending on experience
• Permanent full-time role
• Location: 301 Marsh's Road, Christchurch
• Hours: 45 hours per week from 15:00PM to 1:30AM, Monday– Thursday 15:00PM to 20:00PM Friday
