Job summary

SeaLink Travel Group in New Zealand is seeking qualified Deckhands for permanent or fixed-term positions on our vessels operating in the Hauraki Gulf. Rosters are 3 days on, 3 days off, with 13–15 hour shifts during peak periods.

Successful applicants will have essential maritime qualifications, at least 2 years’ experience, strong customer service, and the ability to work under pressure in a team environment.

Qualifications

• Essential qualifications: QDC (or equivalent), First Aid, Radio Operators Certificate of Competency, Seafarers Medical.
• Minimum 2 years’ relevant experience.
• Excellent interpersonal skills.
• A quick learner.
• Demonstrated ability to work under pressure.
• Team player with customer service and hospitality experience.
• Full/restricted drivers’ licence due to shift work.

Responsibilities

• Ensure the safety of all passengers and vehicles on and off the vessels.
• Provide welcoming, safe, and efficient service to customers.
• Assist the Vessel Master and/or senior crew when required.
• Make safety announcements including voyage details.
• Conduct vessel rounds and report to Vessel Master/Senior Crew.
• Monitor visual and radio watch as instructed.
• Assist with securing the vessel.
• Participate in drills on donning life jackets.
• Operate and maintain the vessel café to a high standard.
• Clean and tidy deck, cabin, and facilities.
