Job summary

SPCA Auckland is seeking an Animal Attendant in Gisborne for 6 hours every Saturday, with opportunities for extra shifts. You will care for animals, update databases, support adoptions, and coordinate with volunteers to improve pathways. You will also handle inquiries, monitor health and behaviour, and assist with admin at reception.

Qualifications

• Animal handling experience and knowledge.
• Experience working with volunteers and increasing volunteer and foster numbers.
• Influencing and conflict management skills.
• Strong communication and customer service skills.
• The ability to think on your feet.
• Positive and friendly approach to customers, animals and team members.
• High empathy and resilience.
• Experience in busy environment with multitasking.
• Experience working with the community in a customer facing role.

Responsibilities

• Care for all animals in the centre and ensure adoption avenues are used to their fullest.
• Update and maintain animal database accurately and assist with routine veterinary visits.
• Coordinate with teams and volunteers to improve animal pathways.
• Handle enquiries regarding adoption in person, phone, or website.
• Monitor animal health, behaviour and administer medication.
• Enhance socialisation, enrichment and behaviour modification in the shelter.
• Sit on reception and assist people at the centre; answer phones and emails; perform daily admin.
