Job summary

Mills Recruitment places an experienced Civil Foreman with a central Otago civil contractor. You will take on-site ownership, lead a skilled crew, plan daily works, monitor progress and ensure safety and quality across Queenstown, Wānaka, Cromwell and broader Central Otago projects.

You’ll read plans and specs, coordinate with Project Managers and subcontractors, mentor junior staff and stay hands-on to deliver on programme with high workmanship standards.

Are you an experienced Civil Foreman looking for your next move?

We are recruiting on behalf of an established and growing Central Otago civil contractor with a strong pipeline of projects across Queenstown, Wānaka, Cromwell and the wider Central Otago region.

We're looking for an experienced Civil Foreman who can take ownership on site, lead from the front and work alongside a skilled team to deliver civil projects to a high standard.

The Role

As Civil Foreman, you'll be responsible for the day-to-day running of works on site, coordinating your crew and ensuring projects are completed safely, efficiently and to a high standard.

Your Responsibilities Will Include

• Leading and coordinating civil crews on site
• Planning daily works, labour, plant and equipment
• Supervising earthworks and general civil construction activities
• Reading and working from plans and specifications
• Coordinating with Project Managers, subcontractors and other site teams
• Monitoring progress and helping keep projects on programme
• Ensuring workmanship meets required quality standards
• Identifying and resolving site issues as they arise
• Maintaining high health and safety standards
• Completing relevant site documentation
• Mentoring junior staff and helping develop the wider team
• Being hands-on and working alongside the crew when required

About You

We're looking for someone who brings solid civil construction experience and is comfortable taking responsibility for a crew and the work happening on site.

Ideally, You'll Have

• Previous experience as a Civil Foreman, Leading Hand or experienced senior civil worker
• Strong practical civil construction knowledge
• Experience across earthworks, roading, subdivisions, drainage and general civil works
• Proven ability to lead and motivate a crew
• Good understanding of plans, levels and site specifications
• Strong organisational and problem-solving skills
• High standards of workmanship
• A practical, hands-on approach to leadership
• A strong commitment to health and safety
• Good communication skills and a positive attitude
• Full Class 1 driver's licence
• Additional licences and machinery endorsements would be an advantage
