Joyful Restaurant Limited is seeking three skilled and reliable Chef de Parties to join our kitchen team in Christchurch.
The successful candidates will be responsible for preparing and cooking a variety of Chinese dishes, managing designated sections of the kitchen, and ensuring that all food is prepared efficiently and consistently to the restaurant's required standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and cook a variety of Chinese dishes according to the restaurant's recipes and quality standards.
- Take responsibility for the preparation and operation of an assigned section of the kitchen.
- Prepare meat, seafood, vegetables, sauces, seasonings and other ingredients required for daily service.
- Apply appropriate Chinese food preparation and cooking techniques, including stir-frying, steaming, braising, boiling and deep-frying.
- Ensure consistency in the taste, quality, portion size and presentation of dishes.
- Coordinate food preparation and cooking to ensure orders are completed accurately and efficiently during service.
- Monitor the quality and freshness of ingredients and finished dishes.
- Assist with monitoring stock levels, receiving supplies and ensuring ingredients are stored correctly.
- Minimise food wastage through appropriate preparation, portion control and storage practices.
- Maintain a clean, organised and hygienic kitchen section.
- Ensure compliance with food safety, hygiene and workplace health and safety requirements.
- Work closely with other chefs and kitchen staff to ensure smooth and efficient kitchen operations.
- Provide guidance and assistance to junior kitchen staff where required.
- Report equipment faults, stock shortages and other operational issues to management.
Job Requirements
The successful candidates should:
- Hold a relevant qualification in Cookery, Culinary Arts, Professional Cookery, Commercial Cookery, or a related field, or have at least 2 years’ relevant commercial cooking experience.
- Have sound knowledge of Chinese food preparation, ingredients, seasonings and cooking techniques.
- Be capable of independently managing an assigned section of the kitchen.
- Be able to work efficiently while maintaining consistent food quality and presentation.
- Have a good understanding of food safety, kitchen hygiene and workplace health and safety requirements.
- Be reliable, organised and able to work effectively in a busy commercial kitchen.
- Be able to work independently and as part of a team.
- Be available to work rostered shifts, including evenings, weekends and public holidays as required.
