Job summary

FreshChoice Barrington is seeking an experienced Checkout Supervisor to oversee daily operations in a newly upgraded checkout area. You will lead, coach and develop the checkout team, ensuring smooth service during peak times and maintaining high standards of customer care.

The role focuses on staff coordination, on-the-floor leadership, and a commitment to efficient, friendly service while supporting the Checkout Manager and driving continuous improvements in the front-end experience.

Qualifications

• Prior checkout supervisory or management experience.
• Retail or supermarket experience preferred.
• Manager Certificate and LCQ (Licence Controller Qualification).
• Strong customer service and communication skills.
• Confident leading, coaching and supporting a team.
• Able to train and develop other team members.
• Organised, reliable and able to work in a fast-paced environment.
• Capable of making decisions and taking responsibility under pressure.

Responsibilities

• Support the Checkout Manager with day-to-day running and management of the checkout department.
• Assist with staff planning, deployment, breaks and shift coordination.
• Support, coach and develop Checkout Supervisors, helping them build their leadership skills.
• Guide and support checkout team members, especially during busy periods.
• Help ensure the checkout department operates efficiently and to a high standard.
• Ensure customers receive friendly, professional and efficient service.
• Monitor queues and staff coverage to keep the front end running smoothly.
• Assist with training and onboarding of new team members.
• Handle customer enquiries and complaints professionally.
• Take responsibility for the checkout department when the Checkout Manager is unavailable.
