Job summary

Foodstuffs North Island is seeking a proactive Checkout Supervisor to lead the checkout desk and support a high standard of customer service. Reporting to the Checkout Manager, you will supervise the floor, assist at self-checkouts, and ensure Lotto transactions run smoothly while maintaining a welcoming environment.

This hands-on role requires confidence, initiative, and the ability to multitask in a busy retail setting.

Qualifications

• Experience in checkout or supervisory role preferred.
• Willingness to learn and develop leadership skills.
• Strong customer service focus.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Able to multitask in a busy retail environment.
• Available to work at least one weekend day.

Responsibilities

• Opening the checkout department and preparing it for the day’s trade
• Monitoring customer flow and ensuring enough checkouts are open
• Supervising, supporting, and motivating checkout team members
• Responding promptly and professionally to customer enquiries
• Liaising with other departments to resolve price enquiries and customer queries
• Assisting customers with transactions at self-service checkouts
• Processing Lotto sales and responding to Lotto-related enquiries
• Keeping the checkout area clean, tidy, and welcoming
• Completing end-of-day checkout and Lotto closing procedures
• Counting cash accurately and ensuring all closing tasks are completed
