Job summary

Tauranga City Council is seeking an experienced Building Compliance Supervisor to lead the Building Support CCC and Compliance team in Tauranga. You will provide day-to-day leadership, offer technical guidance, and coach staff to improve processes and outcomes.

The role focuses on processing Code Compliance Certificates, Certificates for Public Use and Compliance Schedules within required timeframes while supporting a positive team environment and strong customer service.

Qualifications

• Experience in Building Consent Authority or regulatory environment.
• Strong knowledge of building legislation and compliance requirements.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to build trusted relationships.
• Coaching mindset with focus on supporting people and improving processes.

Responsibilities

• Provide day-to-day leadership, technical guidance and support to CCC Assessors and Building Support Officers.
• Coach team members to build knowledge, confidence and capability.
• Support CCC, Certificate for Public Use and Compliance Schedule processes within required timeframes.
• Review documents and processes to maintain quality and compliance.
• Support customers, contractors and internal teams with clear, helpful advice on CCC and compliance requirements.
• Help build a positive team culture focused on trust, accountability, improvement and great service.

Te Tūranga | About the role

Are you an experienced building compliance professional who enjoys supporting people, solving problems and helping a team deliver quality work?

We’re looking for a CCC and Compliance Supervisor to provide day-to-day leadership and technical support to our Building Support CCC and Compliance team. This is a great opportunity for someone with strong building consent or regulatory experience who is ready to support people and help improve how work gets done.

You’ll help the team process Code Compliance Certificates, Certificates for Public Use and Compliance Schedules within required timeframes, while supporting a positive team environment.

You’ll work closely with the Team Leader: Building Support, Building Services staff, contractors, customers and other key stakeholders to make sure applications and documents are processed accurately, efficiently and in line with requirements.

You’ll also coach and support team members, helping them build confidence and grow their technical skills.

In this role, you’ll:

Ngā Pukenga | What you’ll need to succeed

We’re looking for someone with sound technical knowledge, good judgement and a practical, supportive approach.

You’ll bring:

• A Regulation 18 recognised qualification under the Building (Accreditation of Building Consent Authorities) Regulations 2006.
• Experience in a Building Consent Authority, building consent, compliance or regulatory environment.
• Strong understanding of building legislation, processes and compliance.
• Clear communication skills and the ability to build trusted working relationships.
• A calm, practical approach to problem-solving and decision-making.
• A coaching mindset, with a focus on supporting people and improving processes.

Competency in CCC assessing would be a strong advantage, but isn’t essential.
