Job summary

Pathways Health Ltd in Waihi is seeking casual Support Workers to assist people experiencing mental illness or addictions. Shifts include 7:00am-3:30pm or 2:00pm-10:30pm, Monday–Sunday, with cover for permanent staff and hours offered as available.

Qualifications

  • A current NZ Driver Licence.
  • A current NZ First Aid certificate, or willingness to obtain one.
  • A Level 4 NZ Certificate in Health and Wellbeing, or recognised equivalent.
  • Willingness to begin this qualification within six months with significant support.

Responsibilities

  • Help clients connect with their community.
  • Assist with cooking, cleaning, gardening and daily household tasks.
  • Assist with budgeting and independent daily living.
  • Provide medication support where required.
  • Attend appointments and advocate for those supported.
  • Maintain safety and well‑being, using de-escalation when needed.
  • Build strong relationships with clients and whanau.

The Role | Mō tēnei tūranga mahi

Reporting to the Team Coach, this casual role provides cover for permanent Support Workers. Hours are not guaranteed and will be offered as they become available. Shifts are based in Waihi and may include 7:00am-3:30pm or 2:00pm-10:30pm, Monday to Sunday.

  • Support people connect with their community
  • Support with cooking, cleaning, gardening and helping with everyday household tasks
  • Assisting with budgeting and independent daily living
  • Medication support where required
  • Attending appointments and advocating for the people we support
  • A current full New Zealand Driver Licence.
  • A current New Zealand first aid certificate, or willingness to obtain one.
  • A Level 4 New Zealand Certificate in Health and Wellbeing, or a recognised equivalent, or willingness to begin this study within six months of starting with us. (We provide significant support to help staff complete this qualification.)
  • Experience working with young people and an understanding of trauma-informed care.
  • Flexibility and availability to work a range of shifts.
  • Strong de-escalation and relationship-building skills.
