Job summary

Pathways in New Zealand is seeking casual Support Workers to help people experiencing mental illness or addictions in Waihi. The role covers our Residential team with shifts 7:00am–3:30pm or 2:00pm–10:30pm, Monday–Sunday, and requires a current NZ driver licence. Ongoing training and support are provided.

You will assist with daily living, connect people with their communities, support budgeting, meals, and advocate for those you support. Māori and Pasifika applicants are encouraged to apply.

Qualifications

  • Experience with young people and trauma-informed care.
  • Current NZ Driver Licence is required.
  • Willingness to begin Level 4 Health & Wellbeing study within six months.

We have an opportunity for Casual Support Workers who have the passion and drive to support people experiencing mental illness or addictions.

Reporting to the Team Coach, this casual role provides cover for permanent Support Workers. Hours are not guaranteed and will be offered as they become available. Shifts are based in Waihi and may include 7:00am–3:30pm or 2:00pm–10:30pm, Monday to Sunday.

If this sounds like you, some of your responsibilities will include:

  • Support people connect with their community
  • Support with cooking, cleaning, gardening and helping with everyday household tasks
  • Assisting with budgeting and independent daily living
  • Medication support where required
  • Attending appointments and advocating for the people we support
  • A current full New Zealand Driver Licence.
  • A current New Zealand first aid certificate, or willingness to obtain one.
  • A Level 4 New Zealand Certificate in Health and Wellbeing, or a recognised equivalent, or willingness to begin this study within six months of starting with us. (We provide significant support to help staff complete this qualification.)
  • Experience working with young people and an understanding of trauma-informed care.
  • Flexibility and availability to work a range of shifts.
  • Strong de-escalation and relationship-building skills.
