Tourism Holdings Limited (thl) is seeking a casual Café Assistant for Waitomo Homestead. Join our Food and Beverage team to deliver friendly, reliable service while learning barista skills and food prep.

Responsible for customer service, coffee making, POS use, cleanliness and adherence to food safety, you will contribute to a welcoming visitor experience at one of New Zealand’s iconic destinations.

Qualifications

• Entry-level role; no prior hospitality experience required.
• Excellent customer service and communication.
• Willingness to learn barista skills and food handling.
• Availability to work a seven-day rotating roster, including weekends and public holidays.
• Barista or hospitality experience is a plus, but not essential.

Responsibilities

• Provide welcoming and efficient customer service.
• Prepare barista coffee and assist with food preparation and cooking.
• Keep displays, counters and café areas clean and well presented.
• Operate the point-of-sale system, EFTPOS and cash register accurately.
• Restock fridges, rotate stock and assist with stocktakes.
• Follow the Food Safety Plan and café policies.
• Support the Waitomo Homestead operation and team meetings.

About the role:

We are looking for a friendly, reliable and enthusiastic casual Café Assistant to join our Food and Beverage team at Waitomo Homestead. This entry-level role is a great opportunity to build your hospitality skills while delivering exceptional customer service in one of New Zealand’s iconic tourism destinations.

Reporting to the Operations Manager, you will support the smooth day-to-day running of the café. You will help prepare and present food, serve customers, make coffee, operate the point-of-sale system and maintain excellent standards of cleanliness, hygiene and food safety.

What you’ll be doing:

• Providing welcoming and efficient customer service
• Preparing barista coffee and assisting with food preparation and cooking
• Keeping food displays, counters and café areas clean and immaculately presented
• Using the point-of-sale system, EFTPOS and cash register accurately
• Restocking fridges, rotating stock and supporting stocktakes
• Following the Food Safety Plan and all Food and Beverage policies and procedures
• Contributing positively to team meetings and supporting the wider Waitomo Homestead operation

• Numeracy and literacy equivalent to NCEA Levels 1 and 2, or relevant work experience
• Availability to work a seven-day rotating roster, including weekends and public holidays
• Barista or hospitality experience would be helpful, but a willingness to learn is just as important.
