Job description

WM NZ Limited is New Zealand's leading resource recovery, recycling and waste management provider. We’re committed to safeguarding our beautiful environment through sustainable management of our valuable resources. Put simply, sustainability is what we do.

Job Description

Are You Ready to Turn Conversations into Opportunities?

Do you enjoy meeting new people, building relationships and finding solutions that genuinely help businesses?

We're looking for a dynamic Business Development Manager to join our growing team in Hamilton, with a focus on developing new business opportunities across the Waikato.

This is a role for someone who enjoys being out in the market rather than behind a desk. You'll spend your time meeting prospective customers, understanding their needs, opening new doors and building long-term partnerships.

You'll have the opportunity to represent a well-established New Zealand business while helping customers find smarter, more sustainable waste and resource recovery solutions.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Identifying and developing new business opportunities across the Waikato
  • Prospecting and building a strong pipeline of potential customers
  • Getting out into the market and meeting prospective customers face-to-face
  • Building strong relationships and becoming a trusted advisor to customers
  • Understanding customer needs and recommending tailored solutions
  • Preparing and delivering compelling sales presentations and proposals
  • Managing your sales pipeline from initial conversation through to conversion
  • Working closely with internal teams to ensure a great customer experience
  • Representing the WM brand with professionalism, energy and enthusiasm
  • Keeping up to date with market trends, customer needs and opportunities for growth
Qualifications

We're Looking for Someone Who:

Enjoys Building Relationships

You're naturally personable and confident, and genuinely enjoy meeting new people. You know how to build rapport, establish trust and turn conversations into meaningful business relationships.

Is Commercially Driven

You're motivated by results and enjoy identifying opportunities, winning new business and achieving sales targets. You're comfortable taking ownership of your pipeline and driving opportunities forward.

Is Self-Motivated

You take initiative, manage your own time effectively and don't need to be sitting at a desk to stay productive. You're proactive and enjoy creating opportunities rather than waiting for them to come to you.

Communicates with Confidence

You're comfortable speaking with people at all levels, whether that's an initial introduction, a customer meeting, a networking event or a formal presentation. You can listen, ask the right questions and clearly communicate solutions.

Enjoys Being Out in the Market

You like getting out and about, meeting customers, learning about different businesses and building relationships across the local business community.

Previous experience in business development, sales, account management or a customer-facing commercial role would be beneficial. Just as importantly, we're looking for someone with the drive, attitude and relationship-building skills to succeed.

What Success Looks Like

  • Building a strong pipeline of new business opportunities
  • Growing a portfolio of new customers across the Waikato
  • Consistently achieving sales targets
  • Developing strong, long-term customer relationships
  • Becoming a trusted partner to businesses in the local market
  • Bringing fresh ideas, energy and momentum to the team

  • Ongoing training and professional development
  • Supportive and collaborative team environment

  • The opportunity to make a genuine impact in a growing part of our business
  • The chance to work for a company making a real difference through sustainability and resource recovery

This is more than just a traditional sales role. You'll be out in the Waikato building connections, opening doors and helping businesses find better solutions for their waste and resource recovery needs.

If you're ambitious, people-focused and ready to make your mark, we'd love to hear from you.
