Job summary

Breadwork Bakery & Cafe Ltd in Birkenhead, Auckland, is seeking an experienced Baker with strong Sri Lankan bakery knowledge. You will bake breads, buns, and savoury pastries, prepare curry and pastry fillings, and maintain high standards of quality, safety and hygiene.

Full-time permanent role, 30–40 hours per week, paying $28–$31 per hour depending on experience. Suitable candidates will have 3+ years in a commercial bakery and a NZQA NZ Level 3 diploma preferred.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 3 years' experience in a commercial bakery or food production environment.
• Strong knowledge of Sri Lankan bakery products and traditional preparation methods is highly valued.
• Experience in making various breads, buns, and savoury pastries is crucial for this role.
• Good understanding of food safety standards and hygiene practices to ensure compliance.
• Diploma or NZQA Level 3 or equivalent qualification is preferred for this position.

Responsibilities

You will prepare breads, buns, savoury snacks, curry and pastry fillings while maintaining high standards of quality, food safety and hygiene.

The ideal candidate will be passionate about baking, possess a keen attention to detail, and have the ability to create a variety of traditional baked goods that meet our high standards.

Key Baking Duties

• Follow recipes and production procedures meticulously to ensure product consistency and quality.
• Implement workplace health and safety standards to create a safe and compliant environment for all staff.

Collaboration and Innovation

• Assist in menu development by contributing new product ideas and improvements based on customer feedback.
• Work effectively both independently and as part of a cohesive team to meet production goals.
• Communicate openly with team members to ensure smooth operations during busy periods and events.
• Participate in training sessions to enhance skills and knowledge of advanced baking techniques.
• Help maintain stock levels and assist in inventory management of baking supplies to ensure efficiency.
