The role offers exposure to civil infrastructure environments, with a team‑oriented culture focused on safety, quality and responsible commercial decision making.
As an Assistant Commercial Manager, you’ll support the Commercial Manager and wider business with core commercial functions, playing a key role in supporting the tender and project teams to improve commercial outcomes, reduce risk, lift consistency, and support more competitive and contractually robust project delivery. You’ll work closely with operational leaders, project teams and subject matter experts within the business to strengthen the business’ commercial capability across tendering, contract review, procurement planning, subcontract management, and post-award commercial administration. This is a unique opportunity where the right candidate may take on a specialist or generalist role, depending on experience, to actively influence the commercial strategy.

Provide clear commercial summaries and recommendations. Support negotiations to improve risk allocation and reduce prolonged negotiation periods. Assist project teams to ensure contract requirements, including notice obligations and record keeping, are understood and complied with. Ensure seamless handover from tender through to delivery. Support supply chain engagement and adjudications. Facilitate the maintenance of centralised procurement systems to improve visibility, consistency, and buying outcomes across projects. Work with teams to secure competitive pricing without compromising health, safety, quality or contractual and commercial positions. Provide commercial support to resolve contractual issues and disputes. Contribute to stronger commercial reporting by improving documentation quality, process consistency, and discipline. Participate in project reviews and support close-out of commercial actions arising from those reviews.
A relevant tertiary qualification and/or at least 5 years’ experience in quantity surveying, construction management, law, engineering, procurement or a similar field. Experience working with standard form contracts and subcontract agreements in civil engineering or infrastructure environments. Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain complex contractual terms in a clear, practical way. A proactive, team-focused approach, with sound judgement, curiosity and a genuine willingness to keep improving. A strong commitment to safety, respect, accountability and doing good work with low ego and high standards.
