Job description

Jora New Zealand will close on 9th September 2026. Thank you for being with us, we are cheering you on as you continue your career journey.

As an Assistant Commercial Manager, you'll support the Commercial Manager and wider business with core commercial functions, playing a key role in supporting the tender and project teams to improve commercial outcomes, reduce risk, lift consistency, and support more competitive and contractually robust project delivery.

You'll work closely with operational leaders, project teams and subject matter experts within the business to strengthen the business' commercial capability across tendering, contract review, procurement planning, subcontract management, and post-award commercial administration. This is a unique opportunity where the right candidate may take on a specialist or generalist role, depending on experience, to actively influence the commercial strategy.

  • Support contract reviews for tenders, bids, and project opportunities to identify commercial, legal, and delivery risk early.
  • Review contract documents to ensure risks are understood and managed.
  • Provide clear commercial summaries and recommendations.
  • Support negotiations to improve risk allocation and reduce prolonged negotiation periods.
  • Assist project teams to ensure contract requirements, including notice obligations and record keeping, are understood and complied with.
  • Ensure seamless handover from tender through to delivery.
  • Support supply chain engagement and adjudications.
  • Facilitate the maintenance of centralised procurement systems to improve visibility, consistency, and buying outcomes across projects.
  • Work with teams to secure competitive pricing without compromising health, safety, quality or contractual and commercial positions.
  • Provide commercial support to resolve contractual issues and disputes.
  • Contribute to stronger commercial reporting by improving documentation quality, process consistency, and discipline.
  • Participate in project reviews and support close-out of commercial actions arising from those reviews.
  • A relevant tertiary qualification and/or at least 5 years' experience in quantity surveying, construction management, law, engineering, procurement or a similar field.
  • Experience working with standard form contracts and subcontract agreements in civil engineering or infrastructure environments.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain complex contractual terms in a clear, practical way.
  • A proactive, team-focused approach, with sound judgement, curiosity and a genuine willingness to keep improving.
  • A strong commitment to safety, respect, accountability and doing good work with low ego and high standards.

At Fulton Hogan, we genuinely care about the wellbeing of our people and giving them the tools and opportunities they need to succeed and grow with us. You'll have access to:

  • Medical insurance and Life insurance after the eligibility period.
  • KiwiSaver employer contributions after service milestones, up to 7%.
  • Parental leave top up payment with additional return to work support.
  • Ongoing training and development, with clear career growth and progression opportunities.
  • Great discounts at a wide range of retailers.

At Fulton Hogan, Good Work is more than what we deliver. It's how we show up, how we treat each other, and how we keep moving forward together. We're fun, friendly and down to earth. We take the work seriously, not ourselves.

You’ll join a team that backs good ideas, values safety, and sets high standards without the big corporate ego. We're serious when it counts, especially around safety, performance and doing right by our customers and each other.
