Job summary

Fulton Hogan is seeking a Plant Operator to join our Drury asphalt production team. This hands-on role involves running the plant, operating loader equipment, and ensuring production moves safely and to specification.

You’ll start up and shutdown the plant, monitor temperatures and mix settings, manage stockpiles, and support a culture of good work through strong teamwork. A full Class 1 licence and related endorsements are preferred.

Qualifications

• Full Class 1 licence at minimum; Class 2 preferred.
• WTR endorsement desirable but not essential.
• First Aid certificate preferred.
• Safety-focused and reliable hands-on approach.

Responsibilities

• Operate the asphalt plant and loader safely, efficiently and in line with production requirements.
• Monitor plant performance, mix settings and product quality to meet spec.
• Complete pre-starts, routine inspections, shutdown checks and daily production records.
• Manage raw material movements, stockpiles and plant feed to support production.
• Maintain site housekeeping and environmental controls; assist with fault identification and maintenance.

This is a hands‑on role where you’ll help run the plant, operate loader equipment, and keep production moving safely, efficiently and to the right standard. Mō te tūranga | About the role

In this role, you’ll support the day‑to‑day operation of our asphalt plant, helping to ensure production runs safely, efficiently and to specification. Your responsibilities will include starting up and shutting down the plant, monitoring temperatures, gauges and mix settings, and assisting with the blending of aggregates, bitumen and additives to meet production and quality requirements. You’ll also operate the loader to move raw materials, manage stockpiles, feed materials into the plant, and help prevent contamination. You’ll also carry out routine inspections, complete production and quality records, maintain housekeeping and environmental controls, and work closely with drivers and the wider team to keep the site running smoothly. It’s a technical, hands‑on role where safety, attention to detail and consistent plant performance matter. This is also a team that works best when people communicate well, back each other up and take pride in doing Good Work together, so being a strong team player and contributing to a positive site culture really matters.

A WTR endorsement ideally, though it’s not a deal breaker. Experience or exposure to civil asphalt, bitumen or aggregate operations. A First Aid certificate preferred, though not essential. A safety‑focused, reliable approach and the ability to carry out the inherent requirements of a hands‑on plant role.
