Job description

  • Make a real difference for whānau and communities
  • Influence outcomes through specialist family violence expertise
  • Partner with sector leaders to create safer futures

At Kāinga Ora, we're committed to creating homes and communities where New Zealanders can thrive. Through thoughtful planning and purposeful action, we're shaping the future of housing and making a positive difference in people's lives across Aotearoa.

We're also committed to being a trusted partner for Māori and iwi, supporting their rights, interests and aspirations in line with Te Tiriti o Waitangi.
As Advisor Wellbeing Support – Family Violence, you'll provide specialist advice, guidance and coaching to customer facing teams, helping them respond safely and effectively to customers and whānau affected by family violence.

You'll bring established family violence expertise to support frontline staff, build capability, and strengthen confidence in responding to complex situations. A key focus of the role is coordinating Kāinga Ora’s involvement in the Canterbury Integrated Safety Response (ISR), including responding to cases, actions and information received through the ISR process.

Working across our Christchurch offices, you’ll develop strong relationships with internal teams and external partners, including government agencies, NGOs and community organisations. You’ll help connect customers and whānau with appropriate specialist support while promoting collaborative, coordinated responses.

This role focuses on advice, training and capability building rather than direct intervention. You’ll provide guidance in complex situations, maintain professional boundaries, identify when escalation is required, and contribute to strengthening local and national family violence responses.

To be successful, you’ll have:

  • A qualification in social work, social services, family violence, health, psychology or a related discipline is desirable.
  • At least three years' experience in the family violence sector.
  • A current New Zealand driver's licence as regular travel across Christchurch is involved.
  • Strong knowledge of family violence dynamics, risk indicators, coercive control and patterns of harm.
  • Understanding of trauma and the impacts of family violence on children and young people.
  • Experience providing specialist advice in complex and sensitive situations.
  • Strong knowledge of statutory, NGO and community-based family violence services.
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively in interagency or multidisciplinary environments.
  • Excellent relationship building, influencing and networking skills.
  • Strong coaching, facilitation and training capability.
  • Confidence communicating complex and sensitive information with professionalism and empathy.
