Job summary

Apollo Research is hiring its first dedicated Engineering Manager to lead the Watcher product engineering team. This player-coach role blends people leadership with hands-on coding in Python and TypeScript, reporting to CEO Marius.

You will shape the team, processes, and product direction, with significant influence over scope and delivery as the team grows, while still shipping code when needed.

Qualifications

• Strong engineering background with hands-on coding today.
• Direct experience hiring, onboarding and managing engineers.
• Ownership of delivery for multi-person engineering efforts.
• Ability to operate with high agency in a fast-paced startup.
• Clear and blunt communication, especially with leadership.
• Comfort using AI heavily to support management and coding tasks.

Responsibilities

• Own team planning and ticketing, ensure clear ownership and progress.
• Run planning, standups and retros, manage operating rhythm.
• Coordinate dependencies between product, research and infrastructure.
• Translate research outputs into prioritized engineering work.
• Align customer commitments with releases, tests and docs.
