Job description

Position: Design Manager - Data Centres

Salary: Competitive plus bonus + benefits

Location: Norway

This is an excellent opportunity to join a leading international technical engineering and construction partner focussed on design and build contracts for end user clients, specialising in the Data Centre sector.

About the role:
  • Lead the end-to-end design process from post-concept through detailed design, construction and design integration, ensuring all deliverables meet programme and contractual requirements.
  • Manage multidisciplinary design coordination, integrating architectural, structural, MEP, specialist consultant and subcontractor packages into a fully coordinated design.
  • Lead and manage the design team, including resource planning, workload allocation, performance management, coaching and mentoring.
  • Manage external stakeholders and consultants, including architects, specialist planners, Prüfstatiker and relevant authorities, as well as procurement and appointment of external design services.
  • Ensure technical and regulatory compliance, confirming designs meet applicable codes, standards, Building Regulations, authority requirements and project specifications.
  • Own BIM and design coordination processes, including Revit model reviews, clash detection workshops and resolution of design conflicts before they impact construction.
  • Control design programme and information flow, maintaining the Design Delivery Programme, Design Tracker, RFI Tracker and Change Control process while identifying and removing delivery blockers.
  • Support successful construction delivery, chairing design workshops and coordination meetings, optimising designs for buildability and ensuring the execution team receives accurate, coordinated and timely design information.
About you:
  • Relevant technical qualification – Degree in Architecture, Civil Engineering or a comparable discipline; professional registration/licence advantageous.
  • 5–8 years’ relevant experience in design management, architectural project leadership or multidisciplinary design coordination, ideally on large-scale, technically complex construction projects.
  • Strong multidisciplinary coordination experience, managing design deliverables across architects, engineers, specialist consultants, subcontractors and external authorities.
  • Strong technical and regulatory knowledge, including relevant building codes, standards, compliance requirements and management of detailed design documentation.
  • BIM and digital design capability, with experience of BIM processes, Revit model reviews, CAD coordination and clash detection/resolution.
  • Design management and project controls experience, including design programmes, RFIs, change control, design trackers, tender processes and management of specifications and schedules.
  • Strong leadership and resource management skills, with experience leading design teams, planning resources, reporting to senior project leadership and coaching or mentoring junior team members.
  • Excellent stakeholder and problem-solving skills, capable of leading design workshops, managing clients, consultants and authorities, and proactively resolving design, coordination and supply-chain blockers.
