Job description

Technical Support Engineer - IoT and Fleet Technology (3654100) Rotterdam, Netherlands

Salary: EUR40000 - EUR42000 per annum + plus bonus and benefits

Technical Support Engineer, IoT and Fleet Technology

One to three years of experience. Computer science or IT background essential.

€42,000 plus 8% holiday allowance, pension, bonus and benefits

Rotterdam or Overijssel, Netherlands. Hybrid, three days in the office.

Start something, rather than join something

Most technical support roles put you into a team that already knows how everything works. This one does not. You will be the first person in continental Europe doing this job, for a business that is launching a new connected fleet platform this autumn and rolling it out country by country.

That means the way this service runs in Europe has not been decided yet. You will help decide it.

The Business

Our client is an internationally recognised developer of vehicle safety technology, protecting people around lorries, buses, refuse vehicles and construction machinery. Founded fifty years ago, family led, around two hundred people worldwide, selling into more than eighty countries. Their equipment prevents collisions, and increasingly it connects to the internet, uploads data and video to a cloud platform, and is sold as a subscription service.

That connected side has been running successfully in the United Kingdom. It is now being launched across Europe, starting in the Netherlands, and this is the first appointment.

What you will do

Roughly half of the role is making sure the systems and the data are right. Getting vehicles and customers set up correctly on the platform, checking activation and installation paperwork, keeping subscription and device records accurate, and working in the device and SIM management portals.

A good part of the rest is project work. When the sales team wins a fleet of two thousand vehicles, somebody has to make sure the rollout actually happens: that the installation engineers have the right information, that the customer is onboarded properly, and that problems get flagged before they become delays. That is you.

The remainder is first line support. A customer calls because a vehicle is not connecting. You check whether the SIM is activated, whether the device is on the platform correctly, whether the paperwork is right, and whether it has ever connected at all. Most cases resolve there. Anything genuinely deep goes to the specialist team in the United Kingdom, so you are never left holding a problem beyond your level.

You will also help test new features before customers see them, and you will be part of a daily fifteen minute team call with colleagues across the group.

What you need
  • A degree or equivalent higher education qualification in computer science, information technology or a closely related subject. This is essential.
  • One to three years of work experience in a technical role. Technical support, service desk, applications support, systems administration, implementation, or a technical customer service position all count.
  • Genuine IT literacy and the ability to work out an unfamiliar problem without a script to follow. There is no call centre workflow here.
  • Care and accuracy with records and paperwork. Half of this role is administration, and mistakes here cause faults later.
  • The confidence to speak to customers directly and to approach colleagues in other countries when you need something.
  • The ability to organise your own work. Your manager is based in the United Kingdom and you will be the only person doing this job in your country.
  • Fluent English. This is the working language of the group.
  • You must already live in the Netherlands and already hold the right to work here. Sponsorship is not available for this position.
Useful, but not essential
  • Dutch language capability.
  • A second European language, particularly Polish or Italian. The business expands into those markets next, and this matters more than you might expect.
  • Any exposure to telematics, IoT, connected devices, SaaS platforms or fleet technology.
  • Familiarity with ticketing systems or a CRM.
What you get
  • €42,000 base, paid over twelve months, plus the statutory 8% holiday allowance on top.
  • 25 days holiday, rising to a maximum of 30 with service.
  • Pension with a matched employer contribution.
  • Company bonus scheme, which last paid 3 percent of salary.
  • A monthly contribution towards fitness membership.
  • Commuting allowance.
  • A genuine training budget. The hiring manager funds external courses for his team as a matter of routine.
  • Hybrid working, three days per week in the office in either Rotterdam or Overijssel, whichever is closer to you.
Why this one is worth a look

If you finished your degree in the last few years and took the first job you were offered, this is the sort of move that resets your career. You will not be a number in a large support function. You will be the first person in the region, at the start of a platform launch, in a team that is growing into new countries. The people who join at that point tend to be the people who lead it later.
