Job description

With your passion for Linux, you take the next step in your career and join us as a Team Lead System Engineer. You will be part of a young, professional, and informal team within one of the fastest-growing managed hosting providers in the Netherlands. Every day, you help bring out the best in the team by also actively working alongside them as a team member.

As a Lead System Engineer, you set an example for the team. You manage the colleagues in your team, identify issues, and address them in a timely manner. You also take the lead during changes, decision-making, and policy implementation, encouraging and motivating the team as needed. With your positive and solution-oriented attitude, you ensure your team gets the best out of themselves!

Additionally, together with your colleagues, you are responsible for designing, setting up, maintaining, and optimizing high-quality and complex hosting and server solutions. To get the most out of every solution, your knowledge and drive are of great value to both Shock Media and its clients. You deal with a wide range of challenges daily and apply innovative and new technologies to them.

In short: you actively participate as a team member and are also responsible for leading the team.

The System Administration & Support department consists of several smaller, specialized teams of about 4 to 6 engineers each. Every team has a team lead who reports to the CTO. Due to continued growth, we are looking for an additional team lead for this department.

What will you do?
  • Manage and support colleagues in your team;
  • Optimize existing solutions, technologies, and procedures;
  • Conduct performance reviews and guidance meetings with HR;
  • Support other team members as a sparring partner or point of contact;
  • Play a signaling role and address issues on time;
  • Design, set up, test, and document new solutions and technologies;
  • Create and monitor schedules for tasks & projects;
  • Monitor and manage internal training programs;
  • Manage and monitor existing solutions according to clear procedures;
  • Support clients with a wide range of questions;
  • Work closely with both your direct colleagues and other departments, including Sales & Project Management and Research & Development;
  • Take part in on-call duties periodically.
What do we ask?

At Shock Media, we provide 24/7 Managed Hosting of business-critical web applications based on Linux and related open-source technologies. Up-to-date technical knowledge of Linux and commonly used open-source hosting technologies is therefore essential.

You also identify with the following characteristics:

  • At least MBO+/HBO level of working and thinking;
  • A good sparring partner for both management and the team;
  • Inspire and motivate others;
  • Analyze and solve problems;
  • Proficient in both Dutch and English, spoken and written;
  • You are flexible, positive, and above all, sociable.
What do we offer?
  • Travel allowance or the option of a company car and/or company bike;
  • 26 vacation days, with the option to buy or accrue more;
  • A well-structured pension plan;
  • Plenty of opportunities for development and growth, including a personal training budget;
  • Option to work partly from home, including a remote work allowance;
  • Opportunities to increase your salary and time off through on-call shifts;
  • A friendly working environment with short communication lines across teams;
  • An active staff association organizing fun events throughout the year (including our famous LAN parties!).
