About the role
Our client is looking for an experienced Solar PV Engineer to design and develop safe, efficient and cost-effective solar PV solutions for commercial and industrial rooftop projects across the Netherlands.
You will be responsible for technical engineering throughout the project lifecycle, from feasibility studies and initial site assessments to detailed design, construction support, commissioning and handover.
Working closely with Project Management, Site Management, Procurement and other technical teams, you ensure that designs meet project requirements, applicable Dutch standards and practical installation needs.
Key responsibilities
- Technical design: Conduct feasibility studies, site assessments and technical analyses to develop practical, cost-effective PV solutions.
- Solar PV engineering: Prepare PV layouts, string configurations, DC/AC designs, cable calculations, electrical schematics and component specifications.
- Technical documentation: Develop and maintain drawings, calculations, technical specifications and engineering documentation.
- Standards & compliance: Ensure designs comply with applicable Dutch electrical standards, including NEN 1010, relevant NEN 3140 requirements and Dutch grid connection regulations.
- Technical project support: Provide engineering input for project planning, risk assessments, technical decisions and problem-solving.
- Suppliers & components: Evaluate technical specifications, supplier documentation and proposed equipment.
- Construction & commissioning: Support project teams during installation, inspections, testing, commissioning and final handover.
- Continuous improvement: Contribute to standardised designs, engineering processes and technical best practices.
Authority & decision-making
- Make independent technical design decisions within approved project specifications and engineering standards.
- Review and assess technical drawings, calculations, components and supplier documentation.
- Recommend technical solutions and implement approved design adjustments.
- Identify and escalation issues affecting safety, quality, costs, timelines or contractual requirements.
- Education: Completed MBO 4, HBO or WO education in Electrical Engineering (Elektrotechniek), Energy Technology, Sustainable Energy Technology or a comparable technical discipline. Candidates with an MBO 4 background and substantial relevant engineering experience are also encouraged to apply.
- Experience: 3–6 years of engineering experience in Solar PV, renewable energy, electrical installations, EPC or comparable technical projects.
- Electrical expertise: Strong knowledge of AC/DC systems, PV system configurations, cable sizing, electrical calculations and electrical schematics.
- Solar PV: Experience with commercial and industrial rooftop PV installations is highly desirable.
- Software: Experience with AutoCAD and PV engineering tools such as PVsyst, PV*SOL, PVcase or HelioScope is an advantage.
- Dutch standards & regulations: Knowledge of NEN 1010 and familiarity with NEN 3140, relevant NEN-EN-IEC standards and Dutch grid connection requirements. Familiarity with SCIOS Scope 12 inspections is an advantage.
- Grid connection: Understanding of Dutch low- and medium-voltage grid connections, grid operator requirements and applicable Netcode Elektriciteit provisions.
- Languages: Professional proficiency in Dutch and good English communication skills.
- Personal skills: Analytical, detail-oriented and solution-focused, with the ability to work independently and collaborate across technical disciplines.
- Engineering role focused on commercial and industrial rooftop Solar PV projects in the Netherlands.
- Combination of office-based engineering, hybrid working and project site visits.
- Technical involvement from initial feasibility through commissioning and handover.
- Opportunity to develop towards a Lead Solar PV Engineer position and contribute to the client's engineering standards and technical expertise.
