Job summary

About the Role

As a Senior Customs Declarant / Customs Specialist, you will be responsible for ensuring accurate and timely customs declarations in compliance with all applicable customs laws and regulations. You will act as a key point of contact for customs-related matters and work closely with internal departments, customs authorities, logistics partners, and other external stakeholders to ensure smooth and compliant import and export processes.

Key Responsibilities

• Preparing, reviewing, and submitting customs declarations accurately and within required deadlines.
• Gathering, verifying, and validating information required for customs and tax declarations.
• Identifying, investigating, and resolving irregularities or discrepancies in customs documentation.
• Providing expert advice to internal teams and external partners regarding customs regulations, procedures, and compliance requirements.
• Ensuring customs documentation and records are complete, accurate, and up to date.
• Managing customs-related issues independently and liaising with customs authorities when required.
• Monitoring changes in customs legislation and ensuring these are correctly implemented within the organization.
• Supporting and driving continuous improvements in customs procedures, processes, and compliance.
• Sharing customs knowledge and providing guidance to colleagues where necessary.

Requirements

• Several years of relevant experience as a Customs Declarant, Customs Specialist, or similar customs-focused position.
• Strong and up-to-date knowledge of customs regulations, procedures, and documentation.
• Proven experience in independently preparing and submitting customs declarations.
• Solid experience with import and export processes, preferably within air, sea, and/or road freight.
• Strong communication skills in Dutch and English, both spoken and written.
• Ability to work independently, accurately, and effectively under time pressure.
• Experience working with customs IT/declaration systems and MS Office applications.
• Strong analytical skills and the ability to identify and resolve customs-related issues.
• Proactive, detail-oriented, and solution-driven mindset.

Preferred Qualifications

• Completed education as a Customs Declarant or another relevant customs-related qualification/certification.
• Extensive practical experience with customs declarations and customs compliance.
• Experience advising colleagues or customers on complex customs matters.
• Additional language skills, such as German or French, are considered a plus.
