Job summary

Lever, Inc. is seeking a Senior AI Engineer for a remote-first role across Europe. You will design and operate the internal AI platform, delivering production-grade AI tooling and secure deployment pathways for enterprise use.

You will collaborate with technology leadership to shape strategy, implement reusable AI capabilities, and ensure robust security and governance across AI workflows. Flexible office options exist in Vienna for occasional collaboration.

Qualifications

• Significant senior-level experience building and operating production backend systems using Go, Python, or a similar language.
• End-to-end ownership of services including architecture, deployment, secrets, monitoring, reliability.
• Hands-on experience building AI/LLM-powered production applications with model integration and observability.
• Familiarity with AI development tools such as Claude Code, Codex, or Cursor.
• Understanding of reusable skills, plugins, MCP integrations, agent workflows, and orchestration.
• Strong ability to evaluate options and make build-vs-buy decisions.
• Security-minded engineering with identity, secrets, data exposure and secure design.
• Based in Europe with valid right to work, including the UK.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, deploy, and operate backend services and APIs for internal AI apps.
• Create secure deployment pathways enabling non-engineering teams to launch AI tools with guardrails.
• Develop shared AI capabilities: reusable skills, plugins, MCP connectors, agent workflows, and a central registry.
• Build company-wide AI services and standard tooling to boost AI adoption daily.
• Assess architectures, models, platforms, and build-versus-buy options pragmatically.
• Define the technical direction and governance for the internal AI platform.
• Establish risk-based reviews and translate governance into practical controls.
• Maintain security: identity, access, secrets, data handling, sandboxing.
• Move critical AI automations to reliable, maintainable infra.
