Job summary

Hopper Inc. is seeking a senior software engineer to scale a high-volume lodging and cars ecosystem.

You’ll own technical implementations within a complex microservices environment, deliver real-time booking integrations, and optimize monitoring for low latency under heavy load. You will collaborate with Product Managers and Operations to decompose requirements, drive end-to-end delivery, and contribute to highly resilient services.

Qualifications

• Strong proficiency in Scala or other JVM languages and building scalable, high-throughput services.
• Owns technical implementation, testing, and deployment of features within a microservices architecture.
• Experience with distributed systems and service communication methods including gRPC, Pub/Sub, and REST.
• Ability to onboard quickly and handle technical ambiguity by exploring and executing plans.
• Excellent communication skills and a bias for action in a remote-first environment.
• Curiosity for travel tech and a commercial mindset focused on reliable booking fulfillment.

Responsibilities

• Execute end-to-end technical integrations with external lodgings, cars and GDS partners.
• Write clean code in Scala or other JVM languages to maintain high engineering standards.
• Troubleshoot existing codebases and resolve production issues in distributed systems.
• Decompose business requirements into technical tasks with PMs and Operations.
• Own the development lifecycle for new features from implementation to deployment.
• Design highly resilient, low-latency services for a seamless booking experience.
• Participate in code reviews and optimize scalability, performance, and system health.
