Ventula Consulting is recruiting a Project Director for a major transport provider in the Netherlands to lead a large-scale vertical transportation replacement programme. The role requires senior VT expertise and the ability to drive delivery across lifts, escalators, and moving walkways with board-level visibility.

The candidate will manage multi-disciplinary teams, coordinate across operations, technical, and commercial functions, and ensure seamless phasing with ongoing operations.

Project Manager - Vertical Transportation (Major transport provider)

Our client is a major transport provider in the Netherlands embarking on a large-scale programme to replace vertical transportation units; lifts, escalators, and moving walkways — across its estate. This is a capital-intensive, operationally complex programme with high visibility at board level.

They are seeking a Project Director to own and drive delivery of this programme end-to-end. This is a rare opportunity for a senior VT specialist to lead one of the most significant asset replacement programmes in Europe.

• 10+ years in project or programme management within infrastructure, construction, or building services
• Proven track record of delivering in live, operational environments (airports, rail, metro, retail) where phasing around operations is critical
• Experience managing tier-1 VT OEM contractors such as Otis, KONE, Schindler, or TK Elevator
• Commercially astute — able to control capex budgets, manage variations, and hold contractors to account

Technical Knowledge

• Solid understanding of lift and escalator systems, including modernisation scope, installation sequencing, and commissioning
• Familiarity with EU Lifts Directive (2014/33/EU) and relevant Dutch NEN standards
• Able to read and interrogate technical programmes, engineering drawings, and O&M documentation

Leadership & Stakeholder Skills

• Credible at senior level — comfortable presenting programme status to board levle
• Able to coordinate across operational, technical, commercial, and safety functions

  • Must be willing to spend 3-4 days a week in the Netherlands. Candidates based in or willing to relocate to the Netherlands a significant advantage

  This position offers a salary between 100-120K euro with competitive package on experience. Sponsorship can be obtained for non-local candidates. Ideally candidates will be able to work in Amsterdam for 3 or 4 days a week.
