Job summary

Dyson Institute is seeking a Lead VAT Accountant to support the EMEA VAT team, overseeing VAT compliance across multiple European entities. You will work with external advisors, review filings, and drive improvements in controls and reporting.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years in a VAT function within a large organisation.
  • Experience with VAT in one or more European jurisdictions.
  • SAP knowledge and a background in accounting is advantageous.
  • Analytical, numerical and detail-oriented mindset with strong Excel skills.
  • Excellent time management, collaboration and proactive problem solving.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate with external advisors to prepare and submit monthly VAT filings across multiple European entities and territories.
  • Extract data from SAP ERP, analyze and report to advisors for filings.
  • Review and approve filings prepared by external advisors for submission to authorities.
  • Initiate VAT payments after filing and ensure deadlines are met.
  • Oversee controls, cash tax management and VAT balance sheet reconciliations.

About The Role

We are looking for an individual to join our EMEA (Europe, Middle East and Africa) VAT team. As a Lead VAT Accountant, you will support the Senior VAT Manager for EMEA in overseeing the VAT compliance for the region and providing VAT advise and support to the business.

Your specific responsibilities
  • Working with external advisors to ensure the timely preparation and submission of monthly VAT filings (VAT return, Intrastat, EC Sales Lists etc) across multiple European entities and territories.
  • Monthly extraction of financial data from our SAP ERP system, analysing it to ensure complete and accurate information is reported, for onward provision to external advisors who will prepare the necessary filings.
  • Review and approval of filings prepared by external advisors, for subsequent submission to governmental authorities.
  • Initiating VAT payment requests following submission of the returns, ensuring payments are made by the necessary deadline.
  • Oversight of compliance control processes, including cash tax management and forecasting, and preparation of VAT balance sheet reconciliations to a set deadline.
  • Play a key role interfacing between advisors and the business to investigate queries and validate treatments.
  • Working with other teams to drive improvement in their processes to deliver improved controls and more efficient VAT reporting.
  • Drafting responses to non-standard requests received from external stakeholders, tax authorities, external auditors and other areas of the business etc.
About You
  • An individual with three years plus experience of working in a VAT function, ideally within a large organisation.
  • Existing experience of VAT in one or more European jurisdictions is required.
  • Knowledge of SAP and a background in accounting advantageous.
  • Analytical and accurate, inquisitive, a problem-solver, numerical, with good Excel skills and an eye for detail.
  • An excellent time manager, multi-tasker, communicator, collaborator, influencer, pro-active and able to take initiative.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, complex, ever-changing environment.
