Job summary

Cover Genius is hiring an Insurance Accounting/Finance Director to own the accounting and settlement engine for the insurance side of the business, including premium recognition, claims, ceding fees, profit share, and captive arrangements.

You will set accounting policy under IFRS and US GAAP, defend positions to auditors, and lead a five-person team across underwriter settlements, captive and insurance accounting, coordinating with treasury, actuarial and finance systems.

Qualifications

• Qualified accountant (RA, ACA, ACCA, CIMA, CPA or equivalent) or demonstrably equivalent depth.
• Experience with segregated or fiduciary client money and reconciliation discipline.
• Audit-facing experience under IFRS or US GAAP, including defending judgemental positions.
• Managed a mid-sized team of 5+ across multiple locations; proven system-based process implementation.
• Bachelor's degree required; postgraduate degree desirable; English working language.

Responsibilities

• Own technical insurance accounting end to end: premium and claims recognition, ceding fees, profit share, loss funds, commission and bonus accounting, and the accounting interface with actuarial.
• Own the full accounting result of our captive carrier, including technical reserves interface, intercompany reinsurance flows, and remediation work.
• Own underwriter settlements and bordereaux: production, dispatch and reconciliation across a large and growing carrier panel; ensure settlement accuracy and timeliness.
• Own claims recoveries across receivables book; allocate cash to transactions so ledger, bordereau and bank align.
• Replace spreadsheet-dependent processes with system-based controls; document the control set and ensure internal/external testing.
• Set and defend the group's insurance and captive accounting policy positions under IFRS and US GAAP.
• Lead and develop a team of five spanning underwriter settlements, captive and insurance accounting.
