Job description

In today’s world, the need for innovation in healthcare has never been greater. If you’re passionate about using technology to make a difference, you’ll be contributing to creating a better and more equitable future for all.

Within the Research & Development department for MRI systems, you will join a global, multidisciplinary team of engineers developing the next generation of Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) technology. As an FPGA firmware designer, you will be responsible for designing and developing the FPGA firmware for the control and acquisition systems of MRI products used in hospitals and outpatient radiology facilities. You will collaborate with electronic hardware designers (RF, analog, digital, and mixed signal), mechanical engineers, system engineers, manufacturing, and service teams to take products from concept through design into production to meet customer needs. If you are passionate about healthcare innovation and cutting-edge technology, this is your chance to make a meaningful impact.

Your role:
  • Gather, define, and write FPGA firmware requirements and test specifications based on higher-level requirements, stakeholder input, and design specifications.
  • Develop FPGA designs from requirements definition through integration, testing, and release.
  • Define FPGA I/O planning, clock and reset structures, and external interfacing.
  • Document development efforts, including requirements, specifications, design plans, reviews, test procedures, and test reports.
You're the right fit if:
  • You hold a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics, or equivalent.
  • You have at least 5 years of experience in VHDL and/or Verilog coding, preferably in a regulated industry such as medical devices, gas appliances, aviation equipment, or automotive.
You have experience with:
  • FPGA design development cycles, high-speed digital, FPGA, and CPLD
  • Static code analysis (linting tools)
  • Requirement-driven functional verification with SystemVerilog/UVM in Questasim, including code coverage analysis; familiarity with HIL (hardware-in-the-loop) is a plus
  • Implementation of Digital Signal Processing functions (DDS, NCO, DDC, SDR)
  • Implementation of SoC FPGA architectures (using hard and/or soft processors)
  • Digital networking/connectivity: high-speed serial links, Ethernet, RS232, USB
  • AMD/Xilinx FPGAs, IP blocks, and design tools (e.g., Vivado)
  • Definition and implementation of Hardware-Software Interfaces
  • Version control, CI/CD pipelines, and regression test frameworks
  • You have excellent communication skills, are highly motivated, and enjoy working in a collaborative team environment.
Minimum education and experience requirements:
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science Engineering, or equivalent.
  • Minimum 2 years of relevant experience with a Bachelor’s degree in areas such as System Architecture, System Design, or Hardware Engineering. No prior experience required with a Master’s degree.
