Job description

As a firmware designer your main responsibility is to create and modify firmware designs for programmable logic, for example FPGA’s, including the hardware/software interface of the machine. Your tasks include specifying and documenting requirements, implementing and simulating VHDL code as well as testing the firmware in test setups and in the machine module. As a firmware designer you are the first point of contact for VHDL-related questions. You will work closely with designers of all disciplines (software, hardware, (electro)-mechanical).

This is how you make impact as a firmware designer

As a firmware designer you will be working together with your project team, where you are the VHDL expert. Together with your colleagues you will work on electronics solutions that we develop for and in consultation with our customers, and produce within one of our operating companies.

Your daily tasks include:

  • Conceptualizing solutions and budgeting for quotes
  • Drafting and reviewing specifications with customers
  • Designing, implementing, testing and documenting independently
  • Keeping up with development tools and practices
  • Adhering to coding standards
  • Agile way of working in project teams

This is what we offer you as a firmware designer

An appealing salary tailored to your skills and experience, complemented by an 8% vacation pay. What really sets this job apart is a challenging position in a dynamic and healthy development project-oriented environment, while working with a team of enthusiastic highly skilled professionals. You will have the opportunity to work on challenging projects, making use of state of the art technology such as systems-on-chip, high speed signaling, and transceiver based interfaces. Our international organization is evolving into a System Innovator in which there is focus not only on hard skills, but definitely on soft skills as well.

Furthermore, you can expect*:

  • 27 days of annual leave
  • Plus 13 days off work pursuant to the Reduction of Working Hours Act
  • Working in a flexible and hybrid environment
  • Travel expenses
  • Investment in your personal growth

This is what we expect:

You know how to maintain good contact with colleagues, suppliers and customers and know what is going on with the various parties. To get things clear, you are able to listen well and ask questions. You have a broad interest and experience in the technology of firmware but also hardware and software for embedded systems design. You are able to make well-founded design choices together with your colleagues. You will make use of best practices and industry standards.

Furthermore:

  • Bachelor's degree or master's degree in electrical engineering.
  • At least 5 years of industrial experience in VHDL for FPGA design (VHDL RTL, synthesis, compilation and timing closure).

Experience with FPGA design flow (Altera Quartus/Xilinx ISE) and functional & gate level simulation using Mentor Modalism and/or Questa Sim.

  • Experience with FPGA debugging tools (ILA ChipScope, Signaltap) and lab equipment.
  • Familiar with HW development tools (e.g. Spice, Matlab) Familiar with programming languages (e.g. C/C++/#, Java, Python);
  • Affinity to work and discuss with hardware and software engineers on a technical level.
