Job summary

Neways Electronics International seeks a Firmware Designer (FPGA) to create and modify firmware for programmable logic, including the hardware/software interface of our machines. You will specify requirements, implement and simulate VHDL, test firmware in test setups and in the machine module, and act as the VHDL expert within cross‑disciplinary teams, applying agile practices.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or Master’s degree in electrical engineering.
  • At least 5 years of industrial experience in VHDL for FPGA design (VHDL RTL, synthesis, compilation and timing closure).
  • Experience with FPGA design flow (Altera Quartus/Xilinx ISE) and functional and gate-level simulation using Mentor Modalism and/or Questa Sim.
  • Experience with FPGA debugging tools (ILA ChipScope, Signaltap) and lab equipment.
  • Familiar with HW development tools (e.g. Spice, Matlab).
  • Familiar with programming languages (e.g. C/C++/#, Java, Python).
  • Affinity to work and discuss with hardware and software engineers on a technical level.
  • Team player, analytical, pragmatic, creative and proactive.
  • Good communication skills and proficient in English.
  • Good in time management and setting priorities.

Job description

Overview

As a Firmware Designer (FPGA), your main responsibility is to create and modify firmware designs for programmable logic, for example FPGAs, including the hardware/software interface of the machine.

Your tasks include specifying and documenting requirements, implementing and simulating VHDL code, as well as testing the firmware in test setups and in the machine module. You will be the first point of contact for VHDL-related questions and you will work closely with designers of all disciplines (software, hardware, and (electro)-mechanical).

As a firmware designer you will work with your project team as the VHDL expert. Together with your colleagues you will work on electronics solutions that we develop for and in consultation with our customers, and produce within one of our operating companies.
