Job summary

BYD Europe BV, based in Hoofddorp, Netherlands, seeks a Product Compliance Engineer (Passenger Car) to lead EU regulatory compliance for passenger vehicles. You will drive WVTA/UNECE, GSR, REACH, RoHS, and ELV compliance, while owning the European carbon credits program and updating ongoing regulatory systems.

You will coordinate with authorities, prepare documentation, monitor changes, and train local teams.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s Engineering degree in Automotive, Mechanical, Electrical Engineering or relevant field.
• Min 5 years of experience in automotive product compliance or relevant fields.
• Excellent oral / written English communication skills, Chinese or other European language capabilities will be a plus.
• Familiar with European and national compliance requirements related to new energy vehicles (incl. PHEV).
• Experience with regulatory authorities, local authorities, unions or associations, and third-party testing organizations.
• Familiar with whole vehicle and subsystems technologies.
• Passionate about NEV and de-carbonization.
• Disciplined, fact-based, and rational problem-solving approach.
• Ability to prioritize, multitask, and work in a fast-paced environment.
• Team player with a customer-centric mindset.
• Valid driving license B or equivalent for passenger cars.

Responsibilities

• Local Implementation of European Product Compliance across the EU, EEA and NL, covering WVTA, UNECE, EU GSR, REACH, RoHS, ELV and SPR.
• Oversee local product certification, coordinate with authorities, track progress and ensure timely market launches.
• Maintain certificates and documentation; lead responses to inspections and audits; drive remediation actions.
• Lead the European Carbon Credits compliance program, monitor EU/national rules, and support decision-making.
• Manage carbon data, targets, forecasts, and trading; report to authorities and verifiers.
• Develop regulatory research, assess impact, and update implementation plans; build a regional compliance system.
